It's been common knowledge around these parts that the BIG XII TV partners said no to UofH. No P5 for Houston/No Tom Herman at Houston. The team has seen the handwriting on the wall.
The Big-12 already has the Houston market...so you can't blame them if they are looking to expand because of revenue.
OK thanks...I assumed wrong...I would have thought that TLN already would get credit for HoustonCan't post the report I heard on a local DFW radio show but that's wrong according to figures. Texas A&M + LSU games dominate that market...which is the nation's 4th largest. Houston to the Big XII wouldn't have completely changed that...but it would've helped immensely.
Edit: Found this easily, not as recent as the one I listened to but pretty much covers it.

"I'm having trouble believing that the reasons represented for doing this are the real reasons," regent Welcome Wilson Jr. said. "For me the word Trojan Horse is the key here. And I think it's our job to make sure that we maintain our area here."
His father, Welcome Wilson Sr., a former regent who leads the UH Political Action Committee, urged the regents to "strongly protest this invasion."
Law professor Michael Olivas, who heads the Institute for Higher Education Law & Governance at the UH Law Center, argued that UT was "thumbing its nose" at the state's higher education coordinating board and current Houston schools by not consulting them before buying the property.

UH regents alarmed by UT plan for Houston - Houston Chronicle
I've been hearing soft whispers out of Waco that Baylor Regents are interested in purchasing Dallas Baptist, East Texas Baptist and Houston Baptist Universities. A&M recently purchased the Texas Lutheran University (Ft Worth) Law School. The aggs may want to start thinking about a Houston campus.
I live here (Lake Conroe/The Woodlands) and I can tell you the loyalties of t-shirt fans are fleeting. You should have been around here in the Vince Young/Colt McCoy Era, the sound of the Aggie "loyalists" was deafeningly silent. There's nothing like having boots on the ground to build the brand.None of that affects loyalties or viewership numbers. Drive around Houston and check out the Aggie swag. The Big XII owned Houston...before they screwed up and let A&M walk.

I still remember when Texas took the San Antonio market from A&M when they established their San Antonio campus (I have a large extended family in the SA/Hill Country Area and a cousin that teaches in the UTSA School of Dentistry).
With the UofH being a commuter school and Rice being content living in their little academic cacoon on S Main there isn't much standing in the whorns way of branding Houston and their "H-TownTakeover". With the Baylor College of Medicine and the U of Texas Health Science Center (both partnering with MD Anderson, Texas Children's Hospital, St Luke's and Methodist Hospital) dominating the World's largest Medical district, expanding the brands will be much easier. I hope our Rengents are smart enough to purchase Houston Baptist and get our own piece of the pie. Purchasing Dallas Baptist would be nice too.
With Jerry Jones, Drayton McLane and Baylor Scott & White Hospital Systems partnering to build the new Sports Medicine Clinics, at the Cowboy's complex in Frisco and across from McLane Stadium in Waco, soon when Texans think Sports Medicine they'll think Baylor. Not too bad for recruiting athletes, coaches and building the brand.
