Class of 2011
OT
Charleston, South Carolina
[Goose Creek HS]

Ht:6'7"
Wt:305 lbs
40 time: n/a

Being recruited at UT by David Reaves/James Cregg.

Has a Vol offer, mild interest. This kid is a big time prospect who will be a tough pull out of state for UT, but it's at least a legitimate shot. Clemson and South Carolina are early favorites.

Other schools to watch: Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia

Unless the missing letters on his jersey are "Navi" I'm betting we'll never see this guy in orange.

Too early to say...

We've definitely got a better shot at him than Florida... I will say that much (since you were addressing his jersey).

USCjr and Clemson are considered early favorites but UT > both of them.

The only part of TN where there are no "loyalties" is the West TN area, more specifically Memphis.

As I've said time and time before, Memphis is in Mississippi as far as I'm concerned.

Otherwise, we have had a pretty good stay-home percentage with highly rated prospects (which TN isn't ever spilling over with). It's no so much recruits from TN don't choose UT, it's almost always vice versa. You've got Marlon Brown, Patrick Turner, and Mike Oher that really stand out to me as guys we've lost out on.... but for the most part we do a good job of keeping just enough guys in-state.

Unless times change, I don't foresee us having over 5 TN guys maximum over each of the next...ohh...5 years or so. And 5 is being very, very generous. We'll go after 2-3 of the very best players each year and kind of slow-play a few more until we know we have what we want at each position. That's just the way it is.

If we continue to improve, I think that we will have a legitimate chance to land most any kid that we really want in the state. And that includes Memphis.

Fulmer got his fair share of kids out of Memphis and West TN in the mid to late nineties. Cedric Wilson, Al Wilson, Andre Lott are just a few. When the results started turning south, so did our pull with the recruits.

King was a good pull for us last year. Long was already to sold on UGA. We all know how the Brown saga unfolded. We had Aubrey Phillips and let him go willingly. This year we lost out on Brunetti and Maclin, but that had more to do with factors we can not control rather than UT not doing its job. We still have a decent chance to pull one of the OL from Olive Branch if we want one of them.

Memphis is in a good cycle of talent right now. The next 2-4 years should produce some elite level kids. We will have a chance to land some of them if we want them. Some will be a fight and some we will lose, but we will land some.

BTW, We have to be the early favorite for '12 OL Ben Still out of MUS. His dad after all, was an AA OL here. He is already a monster and is a cinch to be one of the top OL prospects in 2012.

Likely headed to Clemson...

head recruiter at UT was Reaves.... he looks like an early commit so our new staff needs to put the press on.

"I took calls yesterday from Southern Cal, Michigan and Tennessee," Gators coach Chuck Reedy said last week.

"In 20 years of college coaching, I've never had one like him," Reedy said. "He's a No. 1 NFL draft pick. He's very impressive physically, not fat, just big. He has great feet and he's very athletic. He has great hands and he knows how to use his hands. He has become more physical."

Shell bench presses more than 300 pounds. At 6-foot-8

Anything new on this guy? I would love to have him still be undecided this fall and I could get a crew of Vols to go to his games to try and help our chances!

Highly-touted offensive tackle Brandon Shell names final five

Brandon Shell (Charleston, S.C./Goose Creek) has narrowed his long list of suitors down to five, the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

His coach, Chuck Reedy, said Shell will announce for South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and Miami-FL.

Reedy added that the Gamecocks, Tigers, Bulldogs and Crimson Tide have "done the best job of recruiting him."

Auburn, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee among others also offered the 6-foot-6, 300-pound talent.

Brandon is the nephew of former Raiders hall of fame player and coach Art Shell.

Did anyone on the staff pick up Reaves recruits or did the currents staff say he's not what we're looking for?

This is the kind of guy who this year we had to put up against a player who was 245...

Not anymore.

Couch, Hughes, G. Wright maybe Sylvester and Malik Jackson...Should have a real DL next year.
