Tanner Williams of Anderson County was a holder until handed the QB reins last year as a 5-11, 180-lb. junior. In 13 games he proceeded to set state passing records in completions (276), attempts (431), and yards (4166), hitting 64% of his passes for 35 TDs.

Now listed at either 6-1, 180 or 6-2, 190, Williams has been incredible so far this year.

* Game 1 against Morristown East: 22-32-456 yards and 5 TDs

* Game 2 against Campbell County: 18-23-341 yards and 3 TDs, all in the first half

* Game 3 against Knox Central: 25-38-409 yards and 7 TDs

So in just 2.5 games Williams has completed 65 of 93 passes (70%) for 1206 yards, 15 TDs and 0 INTs.

While I doubt he's a legitimate major-college prospect, Williams' numbers alone merit some attention.

Anderson County's offensive philosophy is simple: score as quickly as you can.

Mavs coach Davey Gillum said Williams is the perfect guy to execute that strategy.

"He's extremely accurate and he has got a strong arm," said Gillum.

"The sky is the limit for us play calling because there's no throw (Williams) can't make."

Is he playing against the Smoky Mountain School for the Blind? This has to increase his completion %.

The coordinators at AC are awesome these days. The Price twins (offensive/def cords.) played football with me at AC until they graduated in 02. Justin Price won mr football for the state his senior yr. Until they got there, AC ran an old school pro style that didn't utilize its athletic recievers at all. Us players knew it, and when they got there, they started doing what our old coaches wouldn't. If we had used this offense when the Prices were there, we would've had monster numbers.

I've been to pretty much every AC game of the Gillum era. I doubt he goes D-1. Most of his numbers are a product of the system. I still think he has a strong left arm, but he's barely 6 feet tall.

The soft zone defenses Campbell and Central played helped his numbers, also. The Mav offense is still fun to watch.

Coach Gillum was the head coach at my old high school before taking the job at AC. He is a great young coach and offensive mind. The young man seems to be the perfect fit for Coach Gillum's system. I'm sure a lot of college teams that run the spread will take a look at him.

Kid is a division 1 prospect. He is 6'1 almost 6'2 and he is 17 years old, so he still has a year or 2 to grow. He is smart and has a great arm and very very accurate. He excels in a spread passing attack. I know he is gettin looks from smaller D-1 schools. I talked to his dad the other day and he would like to play both baseball and football in college. I think he would make a great fit in the Sunbelt or MAC conference.

Update on Williams: Through seven games, he has completed 168 of 240 passes (70%) for 2446 yards, 24 TDs and just 2 INTs. He had his string of 183 straight passes w/o an INT broken against Oak Ridge.

I was meesing around on MaxPreps looking at QB and noticed this kid is ranked 7th in the nation (Worley is 4th). I know nothing about him other than he is a QB from TN.. I just thought it interesting. Sorry this doesn't look any better. I don't know how to make the columns line up right...

GP CMP ATT PCT YDS YDS/G TD INT RATE
10 230 347 .663 3296 329.6 27 5 117

FWIW Worleys numbers

10 291 403 .722 3563 356.3 43 7 127

Maybe this kid is one the staff could talk to about walking on with the chance to earn a ship if Simms decides to look elsewhere. May not be an ideal QB...but if your throwing for 4000 yards in a season you can sling it. Go Vols

He is AMAZING! I saw him play in person (just like Devrin Young)... He is VERY accurate and just a great QB! He's also a pitcher for AC too so that could be why he's a QB
