Donovonn Young - Yahoo! Sports

One of the most under recruited RB's in the country, plays on Perennial Powerhouse Katy High School in Texas.

Young transferred from Humble High School after his Soph year, got injured last season and has put up great stats this year for one of the top 10 teams and #2 ranked team in Texas.

I know we don't have room for him, but he will be an impact player where ever he plays.....could see him moving to LBer at the next level.

Kid runs hard but isn't the back we are looking for. Reminds me of Toney Williams. I don't see enough speed.... The highlights says sophmore though so if that is true flim may not tell everything about the kid.

Highlights on rivals were from his soph. year. Kid runs high, and like a freight train. Could see him moving to FB or a LBer (built like Al Wilson, not saying he is anywhere in that stratosphere).

Also, definitely don't think we'd pursue him with our number crunch, but someone is going to get a steal. Plays at the highest possible level of HS competition, Katy should play Trinity in the champ game.

VolQuest.com - Texas changes, A&M's big '12 RB, SLC update

Young finally picked up a big offer from Illinois. Ran for almost 2400 yards in 5A in the Houston area this season averaging over 9 yards per carry - Katy lost in the Regional Finals at Rice Stadium between two 13-0 teams. Young ran for 238 yards and 2 TD's in the loss to Pearland. Pearland scored with 47 seconds left on a 44 yard pass to win by 3 points.....in front of 41,000 fans.

tooo SLOOOOOOOWWWW

Doesn't really matter because it didn't appear anyone could actually tackle the guy... Dude is a BRUISER.. He's plenty fast enough for that style of running... I'm biased though, I absolutely love that type of back. Earl Campbell was my favorite RB of all time...

YouTube - DONOVANN YOUNG KATY TIGERS RB "THE LEAP"

Not sure he's too slow like some say. He ran multiple runs of 60+ yds on the video. He's not a burner by no means, but he has quick feet and is your classic downhill runner. Kinda cool to see a kid run out of the power I formation. I think the "deception factor" of the spread/draw read play, actually helps some kids at the HS level look better than they are. There's something to be said about a kid who runs the power I in the biggest division in Texas and FLAT OUT can't be stopped. Will probably play at 230lbs or so in college. REALLY surprised that Wisconsin isn't on this kid. Not saying UT should court him, don't kid yourselves though, dude can play.

I guess 5A isn't Texas' highest class of football, but still pretty competitive.

5A is definitely the biggest division in Texas. Katy has played for 3 consecutive 5A state titles. They were the favorite to play Trinity in the finals this year but just got knocked off by a pertty good 14-0 Pearland team on a last second pass. Katy is/was ranked #9 in the country before the loss. They are a perennial top 25 program if not higher in the country. There is actually a book out about their program.

Another kid to watch, who doesn't have video up is Adam Taylor, kid is only a soph. for Katy and ran for over 9 yards a carry as well out of the power I. Katy is a football factory these kids are taught to play football at a young age - its similar to "Varsity Blues". Its very unusual to see a Soph to get as much playing time as Taylor did this season, last back to do that was Aundre Dean - as I stated earlier he had offers to every big time school out there ultimately chose UCLA and then got home sick and transferred to TCU. FWIW, TCU's quarter back Andy Dalton is a Katy alum.

Back to D. Young though, kid will make someone happy, he is indeed running with a chip on his shoulder due to the injury he suffered last year that slowed him down. He dominated Houston competition as a Soph in Humble, Texas then transferred to Katy to play his Junior and Senior years. Very good kid as well, well mannered, as most Katy players and extremely well coached.

He actually reminds me alot of Arian Foster.....with a little more power. Keep in mind these teams he's facing would blow most TN teams out of the water.

I was thinking they had 6A in Texas. Either way, you can tell the comp is pretty darn good. You can also tell his team is VERY discipline. I'm surprised he isn't getting more pub, dude has some talent. He's not as slow as some say he is IMO. Very very talented kid.
