12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

I heard from my brother that I'tavius received a visit at school from Duke and Coach David Cutcliffe.

I also heard that he's starting to get letters from the Southern Sympathizers, the Children of the Cowbells, and (gulp) the Enemy.

I was sitting around alot of blackman fans and former players and they all said that they thought bryson was a better back. I think Mathers may be stronger but Bryson is more electric and hits the holes much quicker.

you have to stop the drinking :)))
Mathers will be a top 20 RB in the nation when it is all said and done. Bryson is good, Mathers is Great!

He's going to get a lot of looks at some major Division I schools. My brother told me of one his teammates, Hunter Thompson, who is receiving interest from Ivy League schools like Princeton, Brown, and Penn.

i graduated from riverdale 2 years ago and i go to MTSU and keep up with 7AAA football in a big way. it is not thompson that has ivy league interest, it is the other linebacker Patten. I was told last week he has offers from navy, air force, william and mary, brown and princeton. Thompson is good though.

I hope the guy is a good student athelete and not someone like the last big time mid-state RB we had pledge (LaMarcus Coker). I have seen his film, and he looks awesome. It would be nice to have a homegrown hero around here (sorry, we just don't have the players consistently that Florida, GA, AL, SC, and Louisiana often do). This guy looks (on the field) like the real deal.

According to Daily News Journal, he has a B average. He has been offered by Vanderbilt, so he must be pretty smart.

He doesn't have elite speed which will hurt his rankings. However, I doubt there will be many better in open space.

Mathers is a all purpose back, don't doubt his speed tho. Kid is legit.

I'm with you...maybe I'm just old, but he looked plenty fast. He reversed field on one play and outran the entire defense in the process, and several times made it to the edge and dusted everybody. Not sure why everyone is taking issue with his speed...unless he was playing against a bunch of slow white boys.

The kids speed shouldn't be a question. He is plenty fast. I think a lot of people think if your not 4.4 speed then your not fast. There are plenty of great backs in college and pro that run 4.5 or higher. Remember the 4.59 speed seen in youtube video was as a sophomore. I'm sure he is a little faster than that now and will probably be a little faster as a senior. Look forward to seeing his combine times this year.

That explosive junior season has drawn early offers from Vanderbilt, Duke, Virginia and Middle Tennessee State. Interest is already coming from Notre Dame, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Michigan, UCLA, South Carolina and Missouri.

Mathers camped at Notre Dame last summer and said he's a better fit for the spread offense because of his mix of size and speed. Irish running backs coach Tim Hinton, who connected with Mathers last summer and recently stopped by Blackman High School, probably wouldn't argue that point.

"I loved the camp at Notre Dame," said Mathers, who added he hopes to return to South Bend. "I liked how you come out and compete, how everything is fast-paced. Coach Hinton, he's a pretty cool coach."

He will more than likely earn one in camp like chavisut said. I'd like to have Kimbrow & Mathers for next years class.

I've seen this kid play. You cannot tell me he couldn't play for Tennessee. He is the best RB I have seen in TN since Travis Stephens.
