Rivals Profile

Coleman has offers from FIU, Old Dominion, & West Virginia

As he mentioned, interest is beginning to arrive from coast to coast.

"LSU, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Oregon, UNC and USC," said Coleman. "Those are the schools that show the most interest right now. They send the most mail. I also talk with the Florida coach from time to time."

This fall, Coleman has taken a visit to Tennessee for their game against Florida and also to Virginia for their game against Miami. He also attended a summer camp at Florida.

"I'm looking for great academics and a nice, genuine coach," said Coleman. "I would like early playing time, but I wouldn't mind red-shirting my first year too. And a spread offense to help showcase my talents

If he could get up to 180 - 185 lbs over the first year or 2, and not lose any speed or quickness, I'd like to have him. We need more speed and quickness on our offense skill positions. Have him and Young back on kick-offs. Pretty nice combo.

Same HS as Askew and Mayo if I'm not mistaken.

Askew, yes. Mayo, no. Jerod went to Kecoughtan, which isn't too far away. This is the same school that Philip Sims attended, along with the DT from last year, whose name escapes me, that we were looking at for a while. Also has a WR for next year, Gooding, who is getting some attention. I think he had a thread up here a little while back. Good program to have some familiarity with.

“It doesn’t matter. I just want to find a good fit - a program that uses my abilities and my speed and gets me out of the back. And I’m looking for a great education and great coaches. “

Coleman, projected to play running back, currently holds offers from West Virginia, FIU and ODU and is in communication with Virginia, Florida and Tennessee.

“I talk to (coach) Chip West a lot and at Florida I talk to Coach Brian White and at Tennessee I talk to Coach (Jim) Chaney.”

“Tennessee is more pro style, and I like their coach, Chaney, and they can use me in different spots because they don’t have a real speed threat on the outside. As I look at that program, I can see myself come in and be that guy.”

CDD and staff appear to be recruiting some good kids to develop into good men and VOLS. This is from Scout.com. :loco:

2012 running back JC Coleman from one of the top high schools in the 757 area (Oscar Smith High) has three offers and is getting looks from some big names but remains levelheaded.

J.C. Coleman had 153 carries for 1,410 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns while over 600 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns receptions this season for top-seeded Oscar Smith High (Chesapeake, VA).

The 5-foot-7, 170-pound prospect is beginning to gain heavy interest from some big names but remains levelheaded, focused on the best fit.

“U.Va - they always tell me they like my speed and they need guys that can run like myself.”

“When I talk to Tennessee and Florida we have a conversation like “how you doing” -nothing too technical.”

He gives us the breakdown on each:

“West Virginia, I haven’t talked to them recently. I love West Virginia’s offense and they use the smaller backs like myself and they get their guys into open space.”

“U.Va, the new coach has done a real good job bringing in guys from the state of Virginia. In a couple years, they’ll be able to compete better than what they’re doing. They have real good academics. It will be interesting to see.”

“Florida, they are kind of similar to West Virginia and use smaller backs too and a wide open spread offense.”

“Tennessee is more pro style, and I like their coach, Chaney, and they can use me in different spots because they don’t have a real speed threat on the outside. As I look at that program, I can see myself come in and be that guy.”

As far as being that guy in the SEC or ACC, he says he likes the competition in the SEC but it’s wherever he can shine the most.

“From what I hear and see, the SEC ball is the toughest ball. I am not saying ACC isn’t tough but competition (in SEC) is tougher. I would like to go to an SEC school but it doesn’t matter. I just want to get noticed by NFL scouts. As far as SEC and ACC ball, it’s all the same.”

Coleman, who is known for his speed, is also getting looks from the Pac 10.

“Oregon is top notch. I get mail from them every once in a while but I haven’t heard from coaches. Oregon, they would be someone I would really consider. I like watching them play football.”

Coleman is all about making a name for himself on the collegiate gridiron; therefore playing time is a must but he is willing to pay his dues before he takes the field.

“It would definitely have a factor in my decision but as far as wanting to play early it doesn’t matter. I just want to play my second year. As far as red shirt my freshman year, I wouldn’t care.”

Interesting note: Coleman has a 3.7 GPA and his favorite class is Trigonometry
