Deshawn Munson
6’4” 180 lbs
#40 SG
#15 Illinois
3* Grade-89
East Saint Louis High School
East Saint Louis, Illinois

for those that dont know this is CCM hometown...

no espn profile yet, but found this write up:

a 6’-3” combo guard who is electric with the ball in his hands. He brings many intangibles to the game and is a well rounded player. He does whatever it takes to win.
The East St. Louis product is fond of the Illini’s style of guard play.
“I like how they play and how they work with their point guards.”
Head coach Bruce Weber has been recruiting Munson over the last year. He gave Munson some advice for the future.
“He told me to keep working on my game, and if I do they might offer me next year.”
Munson will have an opportunity to see Champaign first hand this summer.
“I am supposed to be taking a visit in June.”
His only offer currently is from new Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin. What other schools are showing the most interest in him?
“SIU-E, SIU, Illinois, Tennessee, Iowa, Mississippi State and Missouri.”
The team that does ultimately get Munson will be getting a warrior who attacks his man off the dribble with great quickness and acceleration.
“I can get to the basket whenever I want. It is hard to guard me, and I can play multiple positions.”
He also is an excellent passer in both transition and the half court. Each game, he will make a pass that makes the crowd buzz. Munson rebounds at a high rate for a guard and is a monster defensively!
His primary weakness is his jump shot at this stage. If he can improve this to the level it needs to be, Munson could be scary.
This past winter, Munson helped lead East St. Louis to a solid season including a big first round playoff victory over O’Fallon.
“It went pretty good. A lot of people didn’t expect us to do as good as we did.”
He has continued his solid play this spring with the St. Louis Eagles 16 and Under AAU squad.
“So far it has been going pretty good. It is a new team, but it’s going good.”
Munson has huge upside. He already has the intangibles. When he puts it all together, his potential is unlimited. He will be a hot prospect for college coaches to track in July. Illinois and other high majors will certainly be evaluating the progress in Munson’s game.

I've been in East St.Louis before, all I'm saying is this kid is most likely tough.

i remember CCM talking about what a rough place it was growing up and how it has made it the man he is. i would say that if ccm wants this kid, he could probably pull him pretty easily being from the same part of town this kid is. JMO

Very viable theory IMO.

Very viable theory IMO.

IMO CCM will feel him out and try to hold out to see what the other kids from memphis, and other top guys we are in on will do. i hate to say fall back, but that is what this guy could be as it's very possible CCM would be able to pull him at the last minute.

Sounds very plausible.

just watched and listened to an interview with this guy, he is flat out ours if we want him. he was wearing a tennessee hoodie and said we were the one really after him the hardest, and that we were definetely his favorite.

FWIW

Would be a very nice pick up.

Would be a very nice pick up.

Needs to improve hit shot greatly, it's border line horrible, just really bad form. On the other side of that though is that many call him one of the best slasher/drivers and finishers at the rim in the country. Apparently very strong with the ball and knows how to finish.

So he's definitely a guy that could rise up some with just the improvement of his J, and he knows that it needs work so hopefully hell work on it.

Write up sounds like D-Wade before heading to Marquette tbh. I like athletic kids that main weakness is their J. That is the easiest thing to improve at the next level IMO. 2k shots a week!

He beat my alma mater in the first round of the playoffs. Wasn't expecting to see an O'Fallon reference on VN.

Sounds like a good prospect though.

Any update on this guy, BTO?

Odd you mentioned him, I was just thinking about him the other day and how I haven't heard anything on him lately.

I'm trying to find anything, aau results or recruiting news, but there isn't much. If I find anything I'll definitely post it.

I was just looking at the big board and saw that he was rated as a 96 on Rivals and we are leading but I hadn't seen anything on him in a long time.

Yea I actually just found his aau stats. He plays for the st Louis eagles in the eybl league, great aau league, very competitive and realistic numbers.

He's averaging:
16mpg 7ppg 4rbd 4apg 3to 50%fg 40%3pt 41%ft

For someone who was described as having a weak jump shot, that's a pretty solid 3 pt percentage. Although that free throw shooting is Shaq-like abysmal.

Well I know he was busting it to improve his shot. This last eybl session hr didn't shoot as well, but season averages look good. He's definitely a guy who prefers to drive and get to the free throw line rather than shoot jumpers.

Obviously not a fair comparison, but his game sounds like d wade, especially early on. Very aggressive driving to the hoop, and attacking the basket, but the shot needed some work. He improves that shot and hell be tough to stop on offense.

Yeah, he seems like a really good prospect. I definitely want him and it sounds like CCM is really working on him.
