Solomon Poole
6'1" 180lbs
#2 PG(rivals)
#14 national player(rivals), #26(scout), #25(espn)
Jacksonville, Florida

it had appeared tennessee was done recruiting poole, but insidetennessee recently caught up with poole at the knoxvegas heat tournament, where he was named the tournament MVP.

Poole had this to say:
During the recent KnoxVegas Heat Invitational in Knoxville he admitted that the success of former Celtics Trae Golden, Jordan McRae and Cameron Tatum at Tennessee has his attention.

"Oh, yeah. That's a definite look because we have alumni there," said Poole, who will be a senior at Parker High in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2012-13. "They played with the Celtics, so if they can play there, I can play there, too."

Asked if the Vol trio is trying to lure him to Tennessee, Poole replied: "I talk to them often but they tell me to go where I fit best."

Described by Scout.com basketball analyst Brian Snow as "a freak athlete," Poole has impressive bloodlines. Older brother Stacey recently transferred from Kentucky to Georgia Tech. Their dad, Stacey Sr., played college ball at Florida. Solomon Poole already has offers from Georgia Tech and UCLA among others. He is waiting on an offer from the Vols.

"They offered when Pearl was there," he said.

Poole's contact with current Vol head man Cuonzo Martin has been limited.

"I talked to him once," the prospect said. "He's a cool coach. If I ever got a chance to play for him, I think that would be swell."

Scouting Report(espn):

Strengths:
Brother of Stacy Poole (Kentucky) and his father played at Florida. Serious approach to the game but a difficult evaluation early in his career. Brings a scorer's approach to the table and tracks as a combo. Quick and powerful off the dribble. From 3's to floaters, there's a little mix of everything in his game.

Weaknesses:
Ideally, his height says he's a point guard and playing the shooting guard at the highest level in college means he'd be giving up size. He has a nice basketball IQ and his transition to the point will be a point of emphasis as we strive to update his evaluation. More scorer than passer.

Bottom Line:
It's no stretch to think he'll be a high-major player; the third in his immediate family. Poole wants to score it and he's good at getting buckets.

From Scout:
"Right now Poole is someone who plays on the ball, but his first instinct is to really score. His athleticism is impressive, and is as quick as any player with the ball in his hands. Poole is also just someone who has that knack for being able to score. He does need to get better in terms of making others better, but the talent with him is simply tantalizing."

Celtics assistant Emory Walton has no doubt that Poole's skill set will translate well as a college point guard.

"Solomon's a very competitive player," Walton said. "He does a great job leading his team and he scores the ball very well.

"He's ready right now for college. We're just making sure we can get Solomon to a point where he's ready to be a starter at that level."

Asked to describe his game, Poole replied: "I bring a presence of hard work. I'm going to work hard, play defense, feed off of that, then get my teammates involved."

That could definitely be a reason, I mean missing half your junior season doesn't help get noticed.

This AAU season will be big for him, and so far it's a good start.

For the record, I wouldn't want Poole. He just seems like a chemistry nightmare waiting to happen.

Easy thing to say when he's not considering your school.

From everything his aau teammates and coaches have said he's a good teammate. And he doesn't play on a joke team, the Atlanta celtics are one of the best programs around. IMO CCM wouldn't recruit and offer this guy if he felt the attitude was an issue.

Lol, you can think that, but that's not it. His dad played basketball at UF, and he's one of the most talented players in the country. Yet we haven't even offered him. Neither has Tennessee. Take that for what it's worth. He has a reputation in Jacksonville as being immature, and his antics got him suspended for the season. Again, take it for what it's worth.

How'd his dad playing at UF work out for the recruitment of Stacy Poole? Pretty sure they didn't land him.

He was suspended because he got ejected from 2 games, not for stealing tacos or other immature things.

Many schools haven't offered him, as you said Tennessee hasn't, but that's due to the fact he didn't play much last year. Watch the offers start piling in though, I'll guarantee it.

And last time I checked UF had a reputation of bringing in troubled athletes, right? To suggest Billy D wouldn't take Poole is not the least bit true. I'm not saying he's tennessees either, but if he wanted to go to UF hed be going to UF.

I'm not saying that he would go to UF if he offered him... I'm saying that his talent and legacy would get him a scholarship offer, yet we haven't offered him. And I'm not pretending that all of our players are saints, either (obviously it's not true).

But you don't consider squirting water onto the court immature? Huh?

Yes I do, but if that's the worst thing a 16 year old kid does in his HS career I can handle it. As I said from all accounts from his HS coach, AAU coaches and teammates, he is a good teammate and a good kid.

I mean seriously is squirting water on a court THAT bad? UT football signed a kid who raped someone, and he has been a good kid since. Tennessee just signed a kid who stole stuff from a locker room on an OV. These are high school kids, who most are still immature an have done some dumb things. As I said, if squirting water onto a court is the worst thing Poole has done im not worried.

But it's been a consistent thing; it's not one event, but a constant build-up of things. Of course his coaches and teammates are going to say good things about him. Also, I'd worry more about on-the-court antics than troubles off of the court. Someone stealing a taco wouldn't cause problems during the game. Throwing tantrums and getting ejected would.

He's obviously extremely talented, and I wouldn't be surprised if he became a great player. Just know that he's a risk.

Many of these kids have attitude problems with officials and get tossed, but not many get suspended for half a season, so that is worrisome.

As i said, CCM won't offer him if he feels the attitude is an issue. If he offers him it's because he feels he will be a good teammate an wont cause any sort of issues.

It's jut great news that Poole is expressing interest in Tennessee even though we aren't on him hard. Shows that if Tennessee pushes hard we'd have a pretty good chance with him. And there's no denying that that he is one of the most takented guys in the 2013 class.

He might be the type of kid that needs to get away from old friends / area to grow and mature. He's a special player, no doubt about that!

My apologies, I don't follow football too closely and that's what was published that he was convicted. If its not true then my sincere apologies...

Cool response.

I don't want to bring it back up, but obviously the kid should have done something about it, but I think he was 12 or 13 and an older teenager was the ringleader. Again, he didn't do anything to stop it, but the whole thing was just weird and I'm sure he regrets not doing something every day of his life.

I looked up Poole's high school, and it's practically around the corner from my house. If we're recruiting him during next season, and he's not suspended again, I'll have to catch a game.

Thank you for clarification, and once again my apologies. Not something I probably should've brought up, just assumed the reports were accurate, my apologies.

That'd be great, would love some in season updates on the kid.
