Basketball Recruiting - Duane Wilson - Player Profiles - ESPN

Friends with him on FB and his last status was "Just got offered from the University of Tennessee" at 9 Central time today.

-----------------------------------------------

Duane Wilson 6'3" 176lbs class of 2013
per espn: 4* grade-92 #16 PG

Strengths:
Duane is a solid combo guard. He can play either guard spot but may be best as a shooting guard right now. He is a good shooter with range to 20 feet. He has a solid, quick release. He uses his dribble to free himself for shots. He can be streaky but can take over games and score points in bunches. He is a solid passer and has a solid basketball IQ.

Weaknesses:
As a point guard he is decent. He looks to score first and needs to work on his decision making as a point guard.

Bottom Line:
Wilson is an above average basketball athlete with a great upside.

Nasty offer list...grabbing him would do wonders for our team. Stokes needs this guy. The team needs this guy.

Not my thread

from some of these guards CCM is recruiting im getting the feeling he wants to go smaller in his lineups. he is recruiting a lot of combo guards that i really dont see him trying to start at PG, i think he likes the thought of Landry being there. It seems he wants the 2 position to be occupied by a smaller combo guard, that if our PG goes out can slide over for a few minutes, think trae golden at the 2. i like the idea, i never have really liked having 6'6" sg, i just thought it really hurts you defensively if the oppositions SG are quick as most are. from edwards/reese and the other wings he's recruiting it seems he does like the 6'6" -6'8" range for those guys though, which i also like. he seems like he is trying to resemble his missouri state teams just obviously with more talent, there last year the lineup was:

6'1"
6'2"
6'3"
6'6"
6'9"

as i said im sure the wing spot is something from what we've seen by the players he's bringing in as a taller position than he had at MSU, but that probably has something to do with being in the SEC now. this type of lineup really suits his style of play, lots of guards who can handle the ball causing less turnovers, shorter quick guards on the perimeter help them stay in front of their man and therefore can play with the defensive intensity he wants, think wes washpun.

i really like the vision he sees for this team, and where he has it headed. here was the lineup i dreamt about last night for 2013:

PG:Trae Golden/ Travon Landry
SG: Sindarius Thornwell/Josh Richardson
SF: Nick King/ Derrick Chievous
PF: Jarnell Stokes/Jonathan Williams lll
C: Austin Nichols/ Yemi Makanjoula

Would be a sick lineup, although Nichols is way too small to play center and Nichols/Williams most likely aren't going to the same school. Replace Williams/Nichols with Woodson or Kingsley and I'm with you. And actually D'Montre Edwards will be a senior and I expect playing time from him.

I'd prefer kinglsey over Nichols, I just figured we had a pretty good shot at Nichols, hadn't really heard much about our chances with Kingsley I'd love to have him though. Are Nichols and Williams not friends, or dont get along or something I hadn't heard this until now?

You're right I dont know why I was thinking he'd be gone, replace chievous with Edwards definitely.

I wish we would look more for an actual PG besides a scoring point guard. We really need somebody that can lead the team and make good decisions.

Are you aware of who travon Landry is? Apparently not so ill introduce you, he's our 2013 PG committ...
Travon Landry #39 PG 3* Grade-89

Strengths:
Landry is a pass first point guard that knows how to run a team and is an extension of the head coach on the floor. He is more concerned about winning than stats, but has shown the ability to take over a game when his team needs him. He has a high basketball I.Q. on both sides of the ball and dictates tempo with his ball pressure. He is a threat to knock down an open 3-ball and has speed and ball quickness to get into the paint at will.

“(Memphis coach Josh Pastner) said he’s looking for a point guard in the class and they want a guard who will attract other players who will wanna play with me,” Wilson said.

Wilson said he’ll take an unofficial to Marquette, which is about a 10 minute drive from his home, on Feb. 19.
