'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Ahh ok, I see now. If one took all honors classes technically couldn't it raise more than a 1.0? (even though it isn't feasible as honor students likely would never be in a situation to raise their GPA by a full point)

Ya, a 5.0 would have a max 1.25 increase, but getting all A's in honor classes usually doesn't happen with a 1.9 student lol. Maybe honor roll was an annual thing at his school.

He said himself he doesn't have a committable offer from Bama or AU.

Only due to grades. Which means if he couldn't get into Bama, he wouldn't get into UT. Vise versa, if he improves his grades to get into UT, he will more than likely have a commitable offer to bama, as it has been posted Saban likes him, but grades are the only reason his offer isn't commitable.

If he were the top of Sabans list he'd be allowed to commit. Not like Saban has a policy of "no commit till grades are in order."

3.0 was enough to graduate with honors and I took an extra class instead of just what I had left to take. Two classes were Ap chemistry and ap English. I went from 1.9 to 3.0. Got the little sash and special tassle and all that crap lol

It was but to be in beta club it was cumulative GPA after all 4 years.

I believe TW said that would normally be the case but a couple LB's from last class might not make it in so they can't take the risk right now. Point being, he's good enough for Bama.

Only way it could go up by 1.25 is if he had a gpa of 0 lol and I don't think that possible for an upcoming senior.

Well I'm not sure how you did it (not saying much) but congrats nonetheless.

Basically just applied myself. I didn't lack intelligence, just motivation. My sophomore year is what hurt me in high school, but I never failed a core class (by the skin of my teeth). Even managed to stay in a couple honors courses somehow. I just don't do well with electives. Waste of time. I realize that's backwards from other peoples thinking. Electives are supposed to be easy grades most of the time.

I'll agree with that. But to say it's ONLY grades suggests too much. Sabans top guys can commit no matter what his grades are. He'san elite pplayer, and I'm happy to have him. Just don't need exaggeration when there are plenty of legit facts to highlight how awesomehe is.

Don't want to question a kids commitment, however, if bama or AU gives a commitable offer down the road, seems he'd be likely to flip the way he talks!?! Jmo

We'll see, I know it's exciting to have a LB his caliber committed in this class. Impact player that can make RBs not want to run between the tackles all game.

It will depend. Not taking many LBs this year hence why a lot of UA people thought he would end up at AU. Which btw has made many UA fans happy that he is headed to UT even though most wanted him a part of the class. I think timing will dictate. The staff really likes him but if others came onboard before he got his academics in order I doubt it.

I also believe what others have mentioned that he will get very close to this class for UT and it will be hard for someone to take him. He wanted some love and got it and I think it will be the motivation he needs to get to college. My best guess right now if UT has to be concerned may be more with AU in the end than UA. Again it is a numbers game the same with UT on WRs.

Good info TW as always. Thanks

Think about this we all think Bates is coming, just saying what if Wison would come to, that would be nice.
Here's how I see it..

Bates>Garrett>Mouhon=Wilson

Obviously Bates is a want for multiple reasons, Garrett is the most talented along with Bates, and Moo Moo and Wilson are important for separate reasons (Mouhon's bro played for Butch and Wilson would help us "own the state") and are similarly good.

If we could get all 4, + Weatherd and Bryant, I say get them all and redshirt a few after spring/summer evaluations.

Last year DB and DL were huge needs for UA and Saban gambled on a few and one DB and DL are not yet eligible and may not make it in. But they were needed so UA took the chance. This year LB is not a huge need for UA so the staff does not look like they will take that chance.

He is good enough for UA and the staff likes him but not willing to risk yet for a position that only has a few spots to fill. I guess a big difference when you have 6-8 spots if one does not make it in vs. 3-4 spots.

how many total players can UA sign this year?

No one knows how bad it is and it may not be that bad. But what we do know is:

1) UT needs LBs
2) CBJ believes this kid is worth the risk
3) The UT staff feels no matter where he is at academically there is a path for him to make it
4) Worst case if he does not the staff will help place him at JUCO and bring him back in 2 years

By taking his commitment early no matter how he gets to a 4 yr UT has showed him they believe he is worth it. These players remember this and why I think he will stick.

To be honest I am not sure but I expect no matter what 25 at least. It looks like there is 15 seniors on scholarship(8 starters). Also 7-10 juniors who could either leave early for the NFL or they will graduate and leave since they do not play that much. (Roster management)
