I love his Bryant as a prospect. I think he is definitely one of the most overlooked players in the state. He comes from a tremendous high school football program. He is a physical and instinctive player. He covers in space and moves well laterally. He can deliver some big hits, but needs to improve his arm tackling. He can get away with arm tackling at the high school level. I can see him adding 20-25 more pounds easily and maintain his speed and agility.
I think some of his other SEC offers were commitable. He had this to say about Alabama's camp a few weeks ago, "I talked to Coach Saban. He said how happy he was that I came up there. He was basically telling me the same things. He told me to get my grades up, and ACT score up. I would then have a chance of playing up there."
Alabama's numbers are very tight. They have two linebacker commitments in Shaun Dion Hamilton and Zach Whitley.
I look forward to following his college career. He's been one of my favorite players in this class.
"Gavin Bryant (Jackson, Ala./Jackson) had offers from Alabama and Auburn, but neither in-state program was ready to take a commitment from the ESPN 300 linebacker. He grew tired of waiting, and after a visit to Tennessee over the weekend, he committed to the Volunteers on Monday.
I want to play in the SEC, and Tennessee is an SEC school, Bryant said. I really didnt want to leave the state, but Alabama and Auburn were holding back on me. Tennessee was neck and neck with Alabama and Auburn. I feel like Tennessee was better than all the rest of the schools I went to, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.
On his latest trip to Knoxville, Bryant spent time with the coaching staff and further developed his relationship with head coach Butch Jones.
The coaches showed me a lot of love with the recruiting process, Bryant said. They get a friendship with everybody. They built the best relationship of all the rest of the schools that I went to. The Miami coach showed me a lot of love, too, but Tennessee was closer to home.
Is it too late for Alabama and Auburn? It looks that way. Bryant says hes going to stick with what hes got even if he receives a committable offer from either the Tide or the Tigers. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound prospect is just relieved to have his decision behind him.
It feels a little better, Bryant said. It will probably help me play a little better on Friday night without that on my back.
Tennessee now has 17 commitments for 2014, including seven in the new ESPN 300 rankings which came out Monday. The Volunteers moved up to No. 6 in the latest class rankings."

Gavin Bryant
62, 230, Linebacker, Jackson (Ala.)
Committed to: Tennessee
Ranking: four-star, no. 241 overall (no. 422 overall in 247Composite), no. 13 inside linebacker
Where things stand: Bryant camped at Alabama in early June and followed that up with a camp and later a commitment to Tennessee on June 17. The four-star linebacker cited his desire to get his commitment behind him and possibility for early playing time as reasons for pledging to the Vols. Prior to his commitment, Bryant had a longtime favorite of Alabama and was a 100% Crystal Ball projection to the Crimson Tide.
Tims Take: Bryant was all set to commit to Alabama at the Tides first camp in June, but the UA staff was not quite ready take a commitment from him. While hes a great get for Tennessee, theres a feeling that it wouldnt take a whole lot for Alabama to flip him should his academic situation improve and there be a spot remaining at linebacker.
That article is full of guesses on the author's part and should be taken with a grain of salt.
