'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

BOOM! Is that offer list legit? Without star gazing too much, seems impossible that someone with that offer list could be ranked 5.6.

Bryant did not have committable offers from #Bama or #UF though.

Dude from ESPN is already trying to pis* on the parade. I say screw em. Hard nosed LB is something we need. Huge get all day.

All crystal balls were saying Bama. No one has a committable offer there until they're committed.

Anyone know how his grades are?

And who are the 5 LBs we're losing next year?

Smith, Sapp, Fugate, Brewer, Propst, and Crump

He's a player that all the SEC likes. Some have had concerns about his grades although I think with a plan he should make it. Tennessee's Tommy Thigpen really liked him when he went and saw him in Jackson in the spring.

It's obviously a need position and a good get for the Vols. It's going to be really interesting to see what happens if the two in-state schools particularly Alabama comes hard after him.

How much would it suck for our staff to help the kid get his grades right and then satan swoop in late and take him when he knows he would qualify?

Let's hope the kid values the committable offer and the help our staff is giving him when it comes time to sign the LOI.

"I didn't want to leave the state but the schools that I wanted that was in-state was kind of holding back on me," Bryant told InsideTennessee. "Tennessee wasn't holding back. They gave me the shot, and I think it was a big shot out of all the rest of them that I had. So, I went on campus at Tennessee and saw the depth chart. They want like four linebackers. I have the chance to play and step up and start."

This is why TN takes him now, see if everyone can follow me.

Let's say TN sits back and waits to see if Gavin gets his grades in order and doesn't push him to join our class. Then in late December when he gets a good test score and really turns around his grades, he starts to have Bama, Aub, TN, ect push for him. Since he is uncommitted (in this scenario) he goes to the school he hoped would take him Bama/Aub.

Now in the scenario our coaches have chosen (the smart one) we bring him on board, let him work closely with Thig to get him on the right academic path and then when he gets to that point where he is in a good standing and the other schools come calling he says " F U BAMA TN WAS COMMITTED TO HELPING ME REACH MY GOALS AND YOU SAID GOOD LUCK CALL US LATER".

Sounds good to me. Also if it were to play out where he did not qualify, we still have the spot to grab a kid late and when the kid gets out of Juco, he remembers Tennessee gave him his chance.

With our mess at LB we cannot afford to get Santos'd or Peters'd at the last minute. Happy we have Bryant but will be uneasy til he signs

Doesn't sound to excited. Just a chance at PT really seems to be a factor. If AL or AU comes after him it doesn't sound to good.
