'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

How much would it suck for our staff to help the kid get his grades right and then satan swoop in late and take him when he knows he would qualify?

Let's hope the kid values the committable offer and the help our staff is giving him when it comes time to sign the LOI.

Was thinking that too.

Hopefully he gets his grades in order and stays with us. My guess is that the staff will continue to recruit more LBs with Bryant being a academic risk.

position of great need it is scary sometimes to gamble to much on academics. If he doesn't make it academically it puts us that far behind. The recent APR issue needs to be given some consideration too. The quote from Scout article kind of tells the story.

Taking his commitment now doesn't hurt at all. If he makes his grades and Bama/Barn come after him, then we at least have a chance now to hold them off because we took his commitment when they wouldn't and he now has time to bond with the rest of our recruits. If we waited on him and Bama/Barn came after him, we'd have little to no chance.

Agree.

AJ is a high probability, but even w/ a good yr CM needs (to stay), remain injury free and at least another yr of development.

Only reason I mentioned Curt is he seems to be injury prone and sometimes a kid thinks it's better to go when healthy, even if it means into the later rounds.

Man would be so awesome to take 4 great LBs in this class. If we can get Moo-Moo and Bates to go ahead and commit in July, we will be set going into the fall. Now we need to get at least 2 more OLs and 4-5 DLs!

Always good to pick a big time recruit out of Alabama! Go Vols and welcome to big orange country Gavin!

Not a bad point.

But to me it looks like he verbaled to us to secure one of the waning spots incase he can't get to barn or bama. And that he is gonna keep eyes and ears open for an opportunity at one of them.

Also don't like the quote about only 4 LBs. will hurt badly if one bolts on us

Agreed

all right, now this class is getting so good to where if you pass on UT you better go out of the SEC or you'll get f***** up

Can't believe no one has said this. We just took a stud recruit out of a state with his same last name on the stadium. Dumb bammers go vols. and welcome Gavin to the greatest school in the SEC

The funny thing is that it actually kind of pisses me off how I can follow recruiting as closely as I do and still never see a commitment coming.

But I LOVE getting a LB from AL

Not all NFL positions are created equal and ILB seems like it is near the bottom of the list right now in terms of priority.

Right now, everything is about defending the pass. Getting to the QB and keeping guys from getting to your QB.

As a ILB who is only average at covering WRs I don't think AJ stands to make such an outrageous sum of money that he's a lock to go pro.

It could happen anyways but I don't think he stands to be drafted nearly as high as somebody like McCullers or Tiny.

Gavin and the Bear certainly do look similar....hmmmm

This has a Johnathan Ford feel to me.

If home comes calling he will be gone.
