'14 AL LB Gavin Bryant (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Butch made an amazing power play with this move IMO. Great pickup. Also he will build amazing relationship with our players. That makes it hard to leave with this group. Never really felt Lee was integrated with the group.

Seen this song and dance too many times to be that positive

I understand where you're coming from, and it is warranted.

This isn't Dooley's Vols tho.

Our depth chart is favorable. We took a chance on him when other schools wouldn't. He has time to develop relationships with our players and coaches. He said Thig is like his brother.

He is all Vol imo

Can we at least have a day of enjoyment?

We could if the statement/reasons the guy committed were better.

He basically said, "I really wanted attention from the instate schools, but they didn't give it to me so I had to look for a back-up plan. I found it, I guess."

It's a win for us, because he's a REALLY good player. But it won't last.

He is a VOL until he says otherwise. We now have 1/2 as many defensive recruits as offensive. We are getting there!!!! :loco:

Unless he does not get it done in the classroom he will sign with the Vols. Recruiting there are always changes but this one should stick.

“this is my first time up here,” he said. “it’s nice. It’s, like, pretty much one of the best schools that i’ve went to so far." “i liked the field,” “the field is big. I’ve been to a couple fields that was big, but there wasn’t none bigger that looked better than that one. Well, ‘bama was all right. Them two are about the same.”

“they’ve been after me hard for a while, and today they showed me so much love — like, more love than i got from all the other schools,” he said. “but i’ve got one more visit coming up, and that’s miami — and probably kentucky. I’m going to check them two out, and then that’s probably when i’m going to make my decision." “the coaches (at tennessee), they showed me a lot of love. All the other schools i’ve been to, they’ve showed me love. But they haven’t showed me as much love as all these coaches, and that’s what i kind of like.”

“coach thig’s the main one i’ve been talking to. He’s crazy. I like him,” “he told me i’ve got, like, two people to beat out at the position i play, but i can play, like, all the positions at linebacker. There’s, like, four that would be here when i get here — three or four — but he said it probably wouldn’t be hard for me to step in and try to take somebody’s spot or beat somebody out.

Backhanded diss... I like that.

"It was aight..." :)

A few thoughts and comments from a few rival fans. Fans of Auburn, Alabama, & Notre Dame. Very encouraging. Sounds like people from the state of Alabama know this LB can flat-out play. Via the Rivals.com MainBoard.

That's a good get. I've read where some think he is the bet LB in the state. If he can eat his grades in order that's a solid pick up.
Talented kid. It's a shame ND couldn't even give him a serious look. Effin Alabama public schools.
Real nice looking player. I'm high on him and think he's one of the top 2-3 LBs in the state. It looks like he actually plays LB on the field and is not just some kid attacking whoever has the ball. It makes me think his grade problems have more to do with effort instead of ability, which could be a good sign for UT re: qualifying.
Number 2 LBer in the state and could push to be #1. Bryant is a head hunter and a very good player.
In all seriousness, the mods on BOL have been telling us for a couple of months that Saban really likes him but wouldn't accept his commitment until his grades were good to go. It wouldn't make sense for Bama to take a risk on a LB. If he does end up getting it together then TN got a steal no doubt.

cmon man...total bammer underestimation suck up maneuver. be realistic here. dont worry u wont offend anyone

I think this kid will stick. He's 2 hours from tuscaloosa, 3 hours from the barn - and 6 hour's from Knoxville. He said he talked it over with his parents and they said they felt really comfortable with UT. Not only do his parents approve - but he has the 2014 class approval. He's part of our family now.

Relationships are stronger than fan and home loyalty in a lot of cases. See Vonn bell. If bama and auburn wait until NSD it may be too late to overcome the bond he will have built with current commits

What I am serious. Most UA fans from the state think he is one of the best LBs in the state. Kid is just not a workout warrior like many are but can do it in the game as well. If he gets its done in the classroom the Vols will break even with UA for getting Hightower.

Why would he commit this early then? We still have spots left for LB, And he could have waited for more offers or raised his grades for an opportunity to commit in state. He might feel a bit spurned.

I think it is called making a good decision at the right time.

We don't have many spots. You have to remember bates and Mouhoun are likely to be vols as well. So that would put us at four 4 star backers. We might take 5. So technically it was smart to jump on now to save a spot

That's a fair point but I'm not gonna worry about it yet.

I just watched his Hudl... Sweet Jesus can he play

I see a lot of talk about the grade issues. Anyone know just how bad it is? Most coaches can tell if a kid will be able to get into college going into his SR year. A lot of these kids who have grade issues are WAY behind. Is there actually a chance of him getting in or is this just a Camion Patrick kind of commitment? Let the kid commit but all along knowing he will head to Juco?
