knowing that he doesn't have that kind of ego as a big, top coach to not just speak to the players and just having to speak whenever instead of making the time and having a secretary before you talk to them. It's definitely made it more on a personal level instead of just a coach."
Not the be "that guy" but I don't doubt for a second that he's making an inference about our previous HC.

Anyone else notice Dillon actually blushed when he announced? He knew this was a homecoming and that we were all watching. Papa Bates raised him right. Dillon has no discernible ego in that clip.

Is this the promised land?? Because I felt like the Israelites being led around for 40 years during that hour long TV wait

“tennessee has always been kind of a little in the lead for a while, as i’m sure many people could have guessed,” said bates, who’s ranked the nation’s no. 113 overall player and no. 7 outside linebacker in the 247composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.

“it feels home to me, and i’m just excited for the next couple of years.”

“ever since i was little, i always wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps, whether that be through high school, through college, through hopefully the nfl,” dillon bates said. “i know that i’m on the right track to following in his footsteps, with him leading the way years ago, and i’m trying to do everything that he’s done, and hopefully better, and (go) into the nfl after tennessee.”

“sitting down with my dad, he’s told me that before, with (former tennessee coaches derek) dooley and (lane) kiffin, he was kind of iffy on whether or not he really wanted me to be a part of that staff and be a part of that team with them kind of running things and how they ran things,” dillon bates said.

“and now, with coach jones, he said that’s totally changed, that he feels so comfortable with him and what he’s doing. He totally supports everything that he’s done.

“it’s just amazing how much progress he has brought to tennessee to kind of bring back the life to the program. It’s been awesome.”

“all the other visits that i’ve ever been on, they haven’t really felt like i’m at home or felt as comfortable as i have been at tennessee,” bates said. “it’s that little something, whenever you step out on the game field during games and you kind of get those goosebumps that you feel at tennessee, that i didn’t really feel at other places, that made me kind of realize that this was the place for me.”

Well worth the wait. Huge commitment. Butcher has locked down elite talent that we could not afford to let get away. Also, love that we're going toe-to-toe with the upper-echelon of schools and beating them.

Make that brick now Dillon! Does anyone think with him committing it'll help with other guys we are in on?
