'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Yeah, because kids never change their minds and recruiting is never fluid. 1st year following recruiting I take it.

I just can't wait for Da'Shawn Hand, Lorenzo Carter, Jabrill Peppers, Kain Daub, and Kyle Allen to pick the Vols. We may not be in it now, but kids do change their minds.

No, this is not my 1st year following recruiting.:)

Didn't realize any of those guys ever had us listed as their leader at any point in time.

lol "wannabe insider". your words internet big guy, not mine

Lol 'Internet big guy'. No threat has ever been made on my behalf to you. So I fail to see how this applicable. As usual, you deflect and stray off of the beaten path.

Mine has merit. See the Malone, Bars, and now this thread. I'm just glad our coaches don't throw in their chips as quick as you do. Because then we wouldn't land anyone. Long way to NSD to make the bold claims that you do.

"He's been quiet since his visit. We've heard it went well but this one won't be over soon. Auburn has made a big push."

repeating the actual words that come from a kid's mouth now constitutes making a "bold claim"? ok there fella...

I already told you I confused Smith for Green. What part of that can you not comprehend?

i understand your confusion of Wes Green with DJ Smith, it was your statement that "we stopped recruiting"

we would not "stop" recruiting either of those guys

“That visit was just a visit for my brother to get up there and see it for himself, since he hadn’t been to Tennessee,” said McDowell, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 192 overall prospect and No. 12 safety in the 247Composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.

“He liked it. He liked the structure. He liked the bond between the coaches that are there, for them being in their first year there. He said he likes the bond and the energy that they’re bringing to the program.”

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound McDowell said he’s now hoping to announce “my top two schools in a couple weeks,” perhaps shortly after the Fourth of July.

McDowell has visited Tennessee, Florida State, Vanderbilt and Auburn over the past five weeks. He also planned to travel to Ohio State this week, but he said “that trip has been canceled because my family isn’t going to be able to get off work.”

“It was just, like, three recruits there, so it was more one-on-one time with the coaches,” said McDowell, who claims more than 20 scholarship offers to date. “They showed us the academic counselors and all that — we got to meet them — and we really spent time in the building, inside Thornton (Athletics Student Life Center). We talked about the academics and stuff, so that was a lot different for that visit.”

“I spent the most time with Coach Martinez,” McDowell said. “We were just talking. We hadn’t talked in a while, so we were pretty much just catching up with each other.

“(Jones said) that I’m highly needed at Rocky Top, and he’s going to be loyal to me and my family if we’re going to be loyal back to them. So, pretty much, if I commit to Tennessee, then he’s going to be loyal to me and my family and make sure everything’s all right, make sure they don’t have to worry about me when I’m up there — stuff like that.”

“Me and (Sutton) played together,” McDowell said. “A couple years ago we played together, so our bond is real good with each other. We know each other really well. (Sutton said) how pretty much there’s nothing, really, that you can’t do at Tennessee.

“There’s so many things you can do there, so in Tennessee you’ll never feel homesick because there’s always something new to do. Every day, you can do new things to get your mind off, like, your family and stuff. For myself, that’s something big for me, hearing that from Cam, because I like being at home a lot. Being able to, like, just get out and get around and have fun without missing my home, that sounds good for me.”

“(I like) the way the coaches interact with their players and the bond that coaching staff has, for them being in their first year together,” he said.

McDowell said he’s hoping to visit Tennessee, Florida State and Auburn again at some point, and he also wants to “make a trip over to Georgia and then take my trip up to Ohio State and one to Arkansas.”

“The earliest is going to be August 2nd, and then the latest is going to be on signing day,” McDowell said. “It’s still too up in the air (to say for sure). I kind of want to get back down, like, to a couple more schools and stuff to see them a little bit more before I decide on anything else.”

247...sounds pretty good. I am guessing his top two will be us and Auburn?

Glad his brother got up with him, also glad he talked about having stuff to do (city) when he is bored so he doesn't miss home. Nothing to do in Auburn...lots of time to get lonely.

When the recruit and coaches start getting deep into the academics stuff, I get more optimistic for a recruit (or pessimistic if it's another school, i.e. Malone and ND).
