'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

When the recruit and coaches start getting deep into the academics stuff, I get more optimistic for a recruit (or pessimistic if it's another school, i.e. Malone and ND).

Exactly, this visit reminds me of the Gaulden/Barnett visit the other week.

When a guy has visited a few times in big groups and then comes back in more of an individual setting it bodes well IMO.

Doesn't always mean you are going to get them but means they are getting VERY serious about it.

High quality post. Starting to get into the details of school life and not just sightseeing. Optimism creeping in... :good!:

Practice begins July 29th. First day of school is August 5 and is also the first day of full pads practice. Schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us/page/48438
Could be anything. I know I basically considered open house the first day of HS. Could be that, his birthday, etc, etc.

“I actually took the trip to Tennessee last weekend to get my brother up there to take a look,” McDowell told InsideTennessee. “It was just he, my mom and I growing up. We are a pretty tight-knit group. I wanted to get him up there to see everything.

“We spent time with Coach (Willie) Martinez, Coach (Tommy) Thigpen, Coach (John) Jancek and Coach (Butch) Jones. My brother got the full tour. He told me it was kind of like he was the recruit. He liked the structure of everything the chemistry of the coaching staff and everything. He really liked Tennessee.”

“Recruiting has slowed down for me a little bit,” he said. “I have been talking a a few schools and visited a few places, but mostly I am talking with Tennessee and*Florida State*right now.”

“I am not going to be able to make the trip to*Ohio State,” he said. “Tennessee was probably my last visit before officials. Right now I will definitely take official visits to Tennessee and Florida State. I will more than likely go to*Auburn*too.”

“Right now they are talking to me mostly about safety,” he said. “We have talked about other positions like corner and maybe outside linebacker, but those really haven’t been serious talks yet.”

“Pretty much the most important thing is where I am going to be happy for the next four years,” he said. “I definitely feel comfortable in Knoxville, but I am still looking at things.”

With McDowell nearly committing back in April, and him still visiting Tennessee and speaking highly of us. I will be surprised if he ends ups anywhere but Tennessee.

Wow, he does not sound high on Auburn. They were thought to be making a big push.

And once again, it has to be asked....where is Georgia when it comes to in state talent?

I know nothing about it-- other than this:

No mention of Auburn during Article

--Does not equal--

No mention of Auburn during interview.

Like I said, I don't know either way, I'm just sayin'.

"Rumblings surfaced regarding ESPN 300 safety Cortez McDowell (Locust Grove, Ga./Locust Grove) and potential commitment to Tennessee. The Volunteers are among McDowell's top schools, but he's not ready to commit to a program.

"Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot," McDowell told Michael Carvell of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But there’s no guarantee where I’m going to go yet."

McDowell is strongly considering Auburn, Georgia and Florida State along with Tennessee. If one program recently pulled ahead for McDowell, Florida State is the likely candidate"

Can't tell if it sounds good for us or not

So is he saying he is going to announce August 2nd?

How can he OV here before then if he is announcing on that date? Don't we not have anymore OV's till August?

Maybe he is saying he will commit somewhere the 2nd but still OV to TN and FSU after?

Georgia has offered him, recruiting him, and want him as their Safety in this class. Of course if we land him, the committable/un-committable offer thing will surface.

McDowell's recruitment has certainly been a strange one. In April, McDowell appeared to be set to announce he was a Vol. He was going to do it at the orange and while game. But the 6-3, 200 pound defensive back couldn't get to Knoxville because of a baseball game. He has since visited the Vols and Tennessee remains in the picture, but Auburn has certainly been making a push. McDowell has also visited Georgia in the last month as well. The timetable and recruiting plan for McDowell now seems to be unknown and his recruitment looks to be going the distance.
