'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Trying to find out as well. He just posted his announcement out of the blue on his fb. Could be linked to Marshall commiting to Fsu and he is just ready to end the process.

That quote where he said he would announce at the chicknrun was from a while ago. Its buried in this thread

I thought he said something about committing to some BBQ chicken tenders at the time as well but I don't really remember the specifics. I got the impression that he was trolling his followers the way Chris Weatherd sometimes does.

yeah, i dont doubt it. there is an article where he said he wants to release his top 2 shortly after July 4th. of course that was before the one kid committed to FSU

"I changed my mind," McDowell told Auburn Undercover. "I wasn't ready yet."
"It will probably be one or two months before I commit," he said.

On Sunday, McDowell said the Tigers are one of five schools getting a lot of his attention right now, along with "Tennessee, FSU, Georgia and Arkansas."

"Coach Craig was recruiting me when he was at FSU," McDowell said. "He's been watching me since my freshman year. His best friend is one of my coaches. He actually played with both of my coaches at Auburn."

According to McDowell, Auburn and Tennessee are recruiting him the hardest.

Given the new information above, I won't be surprised if we lose this recruiting battle. In the article, he also that if he doesn't commit in "one or two months" then he could take multiple official visits, and it just depends on if he's committed or not.

This guy is going to lose his spot. And no he isn't good enough to hold a spot for.

If Harrell, Gaulden, and the twins commit before the end of the season (which I think they will) this guy has missed his chance.

Would love to this kid in orange since he is the real deal with good upside. But am growing weary of watching the drama. I'm out of the McDowell Watch. I don't like the posturing.

If this guy hasn't committed by the end of the year he isn't worth risking missing out on one of the other guys. The way he is acting now is definitely not helping his case.

This "commit now or lose your spot" idea has inspired a new loser attitude among VN:

It's okay to stop recruiting an elite player if a good enough one will commit now.

Exact opposite actually. Butch has shown he's not going to wait around and be played by these kids. The days of hoping and praying a guy chooses UT at the last minute is over. Butch is in no position to let a spot go free.

What is wrong with that if he is good enough? Why worry about a drama queen elite when you can have a reliable kid that will give you 4 years of tireless devotion?

I'm looking at it more this way:

Harrell and McDowell aren't committing anytime soon.

The Berry twins- no one has any idea when they are committing

Gaulden is committing soon

There are a few other names floating out there.

Now if we have Gaulden, Payne, Kelly, Evan Berry, for the secondary and lead for Harrell and McDowell, we take both. Harrell will be taken as an ATH becaise he is versatile enough to accel at a number of positions, and McDowell is the best (uncommited) S prospect out of the group (assuming Gaulden is committed).

So in the secondary we take Payne, Gaulden, and possibly one more at CB and TK, McDowell, and Evan at S. Harrell as an ATH. Thats too much talent to turn down. McDowell is a top S prospect

I would boom...

You recruit the very best kids for as long as it takes. This isn't a Truitt v. Powell situation where they're practically the same player. McDowell is better than Harrell or the Berry's. Mouhon is better than Dews. You keep recruiting them until NSD. Peiod.

And guess what? The coaches will.

I want him to be a Vol too. I'm just saying the way he is handling his recruitment could come back to bite him later. I don't know how Butch will handle the drama come February, but I would put more faith in a guy like Malone who has handled his recruitment well compared to this guy.

What makes you say McDowell is better?

Because all elite kids/kids that want to enjoy the process are drama queens.

Again, a loser mentality.
