'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Per a poster on VQ...

"Just a little info....

That I have regarding McDowell. He was a silent to FSU for about the last 2 weeks and was going to make it known yesterday, but called Jimbo Thursday night and said he couldn't do it. It will be UT or Aub for him. Vols seem to be back up top as the favorite. The person I was speaking with last night had not had a chance to speak to him as of last night; but was shocked about the news when Jimbo called him to inform him of Cortez's decision. Most close to him want FSU for him, but with his best friend at UT they think that's where he wants to be."

Maybe I am just not reading it right, but I am a little confused on the line "but was shocked about the news when JIMBO CALLED him to inform of Cortez's decision"

Makes sense. After the FSU information came to light on 247 (and the respective interviews about McDowell and FSU), I really thought that FSU was the team to beat, and we were out of it. Good news, though. Thanks, Ron.

I don't think mcdowell and truitt are as good of buddies as ppl think. Just bc stanton asked mcdowell to DM him once? I don't think it's anything about them playing together. Truitts spot got taken by Powell bc he wasn't willing to pull the trigger.

They're not, it's people looking too far into things

"A couple of quick things on Cortez McDowell...

Jake Rowe of UGAsports.com just posted an update with McDowell talking about his final three of Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia and he plans on making a commitment on August 2.

I also caught up with McDowell today to talk about his last visit to Tennessee and he noted that it was a good visit because his older brother was with him and was able to take in Tennessee and really get to know the staff as well.

He was at Dawg Night on Friday and will try and see both Auburn and Tennessee again before a decision is made. He's trying to make it Sunday to the Foundation Day in Knoxville, but is scheduled to play in a baseball tournament in Texas this weekend so that may not happen. Will be a last-minute thing unless he decides not to go to the tournament.

Right now McDowell is a tough read as Georgia has made a push here after Dawg Night. Just wanted to give you guys a quick update on him tonight."

"Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee. That is my top three," McDowell told UGASports in a telephone interview on Sunday night. "It's not in that order, but those three are in my top three. Other schools are still in the mix."

He also knows when he will make a decision.

"August 2 is the day when I am going to commit," he said. "That is going to give me a chance to get back to Auburn. It is going to give me another chance to get back to Tennessee. I may get back to Georgia. If not, I used Dawg Night as a chance to get a close look at Georgia in case I don't have a chance to get back. I can make sure whatever school I choose will be the right school. It will be my fifth time at both of those schools."

● Tennessee - "The camaraderie of the coaching staff there is great. It is a first group of coaches and they look like they have been together for multiple years. They are all on the same page with each other so that's the big thing."

● Auburn - "I like how it is a family vibe for them. It seems like they put the players before football and everything else before football. That is the big thing."

● Georgia - "It is the in-state school and they are the first school to offer me with the Head Coach. It is Georgia. In this state, it is Georgia or Georgia Tech and over the years it has been proven that Georgia is the better team. It is Georgia."

Each recruit has things they are looking for in a school but McDowell, who is also a standout on the baseball diamond, is looking for a chance to be a two sport athlete at the next level.

"It (having the chance to play baseball) is a big thing for me," he said. "I like baseball, too, so if I have a good opportunity to play both, I would like to take it."
