'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

For the record, I don't think the tweet to Garrett is NEARLY as bad as some we've seen. Social media has simply made it too easy for an overzealous fan to step over the line.

I wasn't really the one who tweeted him :)
We're on to you Jeremy :p

I'm actually okay with whoever sent that if they would have spelled "guaranteed" right. The coaches are probably telling Clifton similar things but instead of saying guaranteed a starting spot, they are saying he would have a great opportunity to start at least 3 years as we are losing 4 (iirc, maybe 3 or 5) senior LBs, and possibily Beast too

Agree. I don't do Social Media. NSA listens/watches you know...

@VOLSJeremy: @CG340 Clifton Garrett @CG340 you would be the only good player at Tennessee, not just another star on a star studded roster at LSU. You wouldn't even have to compete for a spot since everyone on the team sucks.

Hey DA, this is how non-idiots read your tweet. :banghead2:

Somehow I'm not surprised someone would be dumb enough to say something like that. As much as I hate to say it Tennessee really does have an unusually large amount of idiot fans.

We do have our share of idiots supporting UT. But the past 18 years I've been exiled to the state of Alabama have shown me that we are not even a close second compared to the number of morons running loose around here screaming "roll tide" for no apparent reason. Oh yeah, "Bama Sucks!!!"

It is the only thing in the whole state they can be proud of it is literally their GDP...normal alabamans can't even qualify to get into their state school.

just sayin:hi:

Guys I tweeted that to him, what's so wrong with it?

I think i know what you meant by the tweet... "hey, we're down right now, and because you're a great player, you can get immediate playing time and be a starter for your 3-4 years here. As opposed to at LSU, which right now has it rolling, especially on defense where they have a lot of stud players."

However, as soon as I read it, I, as a lifelong Vol fan, interpreted it like this....

"Hey Clifton, come to UT cause we absolutely suck right now and have no players that can compete so you'd play immediately and start for 3 years easy. That's better than going to a great program like LSU right now cause they're so good with all the players they have, you wouldn't be good enough to get on the field for a long time."

JMO.... That's how I read it as I immediately cringed and thought damn, not only did it insult the kid IMO, but it also slammed my football program.

No more than most other major schools. If you have hundreds of thousands of passionate fans, it's bound to happen. Statistically, a certain percentage of them will be idiots --- nothing you can do about it.

We're just 'up close and personal' with our idiots. :)

Agree, however the percentage of idiot Alabama fans is staggering.

I must admit that I tweet recruits occasionally, however I never bash other schools I just promote our school. I typically say something along the lines of could be a key piece in bringing UT back. and a part of great tradition.

I do think there are some fans cross lines, especially when a recruit commits elsewhere, these are just kids, I still wish them the best even if its not UT.

LSU isn't exactly known for star LBs... they are definitely DBU though.

Unfortunately, Chavis is known for coaching LBs to be stars. I can absolutely see high-rated LBs wanting to play for him. Think of the LBs he coached during his time at UT. Al Wilson, Jerod Mayo, just to name a couple.

From an ESPN article about the best run stopping linebackers for the '14 class.

ILB Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South): Garrett is an inside-the-hashes, explosive vertical attacker when it comes to pursuit. He drives through ball carriers and can stop them in their tracks. He does not give up leaky yardage. He shows some violent tendencies between the tackles to stack and shed in the gap. He might have a little more range in pursuit off tackle than McMillan does.

Does anyone know about the possible implications of the SI Oklahoma State story for Les Miles? He was the head coach at OK State when the Orange Pride program started having sex with recruits. If he receives some kind of punishment, do you guys think Clifton Garrett would end up at UT since various recruiting services have said that UT is LSU's only competition for Garrett?

I doubt it has much of an efffect, if at all.
