Gotta say we need about as good a job as we could have this weekend with him and the other recruits. Gotta let CBJ stay on him and let it play out.

Talked this afternoon to a buddy of mine who's regularly involved at Plainfield South (and other high schools in the western suburbs about Clifton Garrett). My buddy confirmed this guy can play. "He's a stud -- a game changer. And a great quality guy too. Very humble " However, what my buddy said next was a big disappointment. "I'd be surprised if he'll qualify academically. If he does, it'll be very lucky"

Weird. High school really isn't that hard and you'd think a kid as articulate as he is wouldn't have problems qualifying.

It's not always intelligence. Sometimes it really is just priorities and work ethic. Some kids just don't value academics at all. Turn them into athletes and they often care even less.

I've got a student like that. Does his class work from August until February. Football and Basketball ends and so does any work he does inside the classroom.

joliet (ill.) plainfield south five-star linebacker clifton garrett made this statement regarding his official visit to tennessee over the weekend.
Clifton garrett is the nation's top olb according to the 247composite.
“it is insane,” garrett said of the game, an overtime thriller against georgia.
The family is still feeling the same way about knoxville and the vols a couple days later.
Ranked by the 247composite as the nation’s no. 1 outside linebacker and by 247sports as the country’s no. 29 prospect overall, the 6-foot-2, 228-pound garrett has tennessee in his top five along with lsu, florida, ole miss and oregon. The tigers were the favorite for the u.s. Army all-american headed into the weekend but they may now have company at the top of the list.
“right now, clifton, what he’s doing, he’s looking at it from the point of view, i’m going to take this visit and not look at anybody else,” clifton garrett sr. Said. “he’s not worried about another visit he has coming up soon. He’s just out there enjoying it and he was very happy we were a part of it. He was very happy. He mentioned nothing else. It was just about enjoying his tennessee visit.”
garrett made the visit with both of his parents and his aunt.
“it was sweet,” the elder garrett said. “we loved it. It was a nice trip for us. The coaches were nice. The vol walk we enjoyed that. We got a chance to see that from the skybox area. It was nuts, bananas, it was really nice.
“the things he said to me, he just loved the atmosphere, especially the crowd. One of the loudest crowds he’s been around. Just hanging out with the players after the game, i think he really bonded with the linebackers on the team. He spent a good several hours with them.
“i could see it in his face he was so happy. The one thing that stuck out to him just being around positive coaches and just being himself.”
garrett has already taken an official visit to florida as well. Next up is ole miss the weekend of oct. 18 and he plans to be at lsu for an unofficial visit for the texas a&m game on nov. 23. He will take his official to the tigers campus in early december. Garrett could announce his college decision at the u.s. Army all-american bowl on jan. 4.

How athletic is this kid? I can't help but think AJ Johnson when I see his size, 40 time, and recruiting breakdowns. Hopefully he's better in space, anybody have accurate times on him?

I've seen some of his junior highlights. The kid reminds me of Al Wilson. He's a downhill linebacker that plays pretty hard. I'm not sure about the coverage skills.

weird you say that. on scout his positives are aggressiveness, shedding ability, and hitting ability with area of improvement pass coverage.

eerily similar to aj.

the highlight film I just watched,he seemed a lot faster than the 40 time listed
and had an explosive 1st step... and downhill is a good definition of how this young man plays... there is no backup in him,he's balls to the wall... I can now see
the Al Wilson comparisons now that I watched the highlights...

Yeah a little freaky cuz the kid looks a little like him too. He's extremely disruptive and when he leads at the point of attack he brings you down. I think he's elite--the AJ comparison might be selling this kid short. I'm not busting on AJ he's just a totally different type of linebacker.
