'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

Posts from rivals main board from a Notre Dame fan on Garrett...TIFWIW...

Garrett lives about 1 1/2 blocks from me and his father is friends with one of my neighbors. I posted over the summer at our block party that he and his father were all things LSU and that his father made the statement a few times that "his boy was going to LSU". I ended up having a recent conversation with his father and Ole Miss and Tennessee sound like they have joined the team photo. His dad had a lot of real good things to say about all 3 schools but Tennessee came up a lot in the conversation. He said that right now they don't know where he is going. Pretty big swing from what I heard over the summer. Wanted to pass the info along.

Really don't think it is a long shot. I came away from the conversation with him that you guys (UT) were his choice at the moment. I really wish ND could have been a player here, kid is a real good ball player. I live right behind Plainfield South and I have seen him play 2 times this year, kid is a player. Whoever gets him is getting a good one.

With the way Butch has been working, I don't feel this is as much of a long shot as some people think. I feel like we're neck and neck with LSU, and hopefully we will come out on top come NSD

Gonna finish in 2nd here IMO...

Yes. LSU is going to very difficult to overcome.

However

What I take away from this (ND fans posts), the big picture. The impact and impression being made by Butch and this staff not just on above avg talent but on elite athletes as well.
When you consider what this program has gone thru in recent time most notably the HC / staff turnover and the losing, having the talent currently committed, those considering us and the number two ranked class (granted NSD is still 2+ months away) it goes beyond impressive, it is simply amazing.

It is somewhat surprising that Notre Dame is not more of a factor in his recruitment. South Bend is only about 120 miles from Plainfield, IL, whereas LSU is one LONG fifteen-hour, 900-mile drive from there. Knoxville is about 9 miles and 560 miles away. Hopefully, the distance to Bayou Country is really sinking in at this point.

Maybe this will get us back on track. Senior highlights...

Clifton Garrett - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl

He's a really good LB. Would be nice to add him to our amazing class.

You do know this is an instructional video on how to play the position at the highest level? Please pass it along to AJ. He needs to know it is OK to square up on a ball carrier and run over their azz while wrapping up.

I would be absolutely awesome to have Clifton choose to be a Vol.

More from ND poster on rivals...

"As I said before, from the conversation, he had a lot to say about Tennessee and gave me the opinion that you are now in the lead. It was just the way he would talk about an aspect of Ole Miss or LSU then he would throw out "But at Tennessee...." and talk about a difference or something that is perceived as better. Both schools were being compared to Tennessee which to me seamed a bit odd because I would assume the team in the lead is the one being compared against multiple schools. Who knows, he has a visit still with LSU. He could flip back to the feelings that they had over the summer."

I like how LSU is way further away, it wouldn't be that bad of a trip to watch him at UT. But to drive all the way to LSU, sucks big time. I'm in Indianapolis and visit my brother who is the coast guard in Mobile, it's one interstate shot down south and it's like 13 hours. Get into Alabama, drive for 6 hours and you want drive off into a swamp.

Unfortunately, I think his upcoming trip to LSU will be decisive. It will be the last thing in his mind.

I am not saying he wont end up at LSU. That is certainly a possibility. And at this point probably the most likely possibility. But I think the 'last visit' theory is way overplayed.

I remember last year after NSD how many of us were talking about how close we came to closing on some elite athletes with this staff in just a few short months. We all said "just wait until next year when Butch and this staff have a whole year to work on these elite recruits...we will land some of them." Looks like we are going to be correct.

Just crossing the line into Alabama makes me crazy.

I dont even wanna do this anymore honestly.

Could be tired and ready to shut it down...could be unrelated to recruiting.
