'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

I'll say this little piece and say no more about it.

I'm accepting of some of the dirty politics that goes on with recruiting. It comes with the territory. But when a guy commits, advertises that commitment for months with the whole #VFL bit, and basically lies to the coaches a day in advance, I lose respect for his word and loyalty. And in the end, a man's word and loyalty is going to carry him farther than any talent on the football field.

I'm fully aware this goes both ways, but I much more respect a man like Lavon Pearson, and it's not just because he signed with us. If you haven't read his quotes today, I suggest you go take a look at them. That is how you handle the situation with class and character.

I hope DaVonte has much success at Auburn and in the NFL, but I can't respect him.

After the way he handled the situation these past couple weeks i cant wish him any success at Auburn or possibly the NFL. Not saying i wish the kid to get injured but i sure want him to underperform.

I do not wish him injury or harm but do hope he is a bust. He is not a VOL and handled this very poorly. If a bust, then this will be an even better recruiting day for us he went to the barn. Let's go get some more VOLS.

Something happened 2 days ago and even Corey Miller knew about it so I'd wager our coaches knew as well. At any rate, there's a photo of him signing on twitter. Granny is thrilled. Everyone else not so much. That doesn't mean $ but maybe granny wanted him at Auburn. Who knows? And at this point who cares? No single recruit makes or breaks a class.

What is it gonna take for this program to pull in a top tier DT or DE for once. We're killing recruiting this year. But man we really do lack in big uglies year after year.

We have some good ones committed.

no need to be pissed. You never know who is going to pan out anyway. Couch was higher rated and that got us nowhere.
That said, dude shouldn't have committed if he wasn't ready to shut it down. That's not difficult to do.

I will say that, so far, kids that lie about their commitments and flip to or from UT at the last minute have been inordinately underwhelming.

* Janzen Jackson

* Bryce Brown

* Markeith Ambles

* Da'Rick Rogers

Can anyone think of a kid that was committed somewhere else and flipped to UT at the last minute while lying to coaches or vice-versa and succeeded?

He could've learned something from Lavon Pearson

“I told (Tennessee) coach (Butch) Jones I’m not going to be dirty, because I gave him my word. When I give you my word, that’s my word. (Oregon) really, really wanted me. I’ve had a lot of schools offer me, but I told my coach to let them know I was already (committed).”

Pearson is class

This is how its done. Screw Lambert.

What really pisses me off is all the love and time Butch and staff invested in this kid throughout the whole process and to get spit on in the end burns my a$$.

I felt way back before he committed to us he was infatuated with Garner/Auburn. Surprised he ever committed to us.

I hope Blair, Wiesman, Crowder and co. absolutely destroy him next year!!
I agree but it's not like it has hurt our recruiting class. And I would hope they would put in that kind of effort regardless. Even though we lost out on the kid there is no possible way you can fault the effort of the staff in pursuing him.

Like everyone in the Vol Nation, I'm sad no chose a lesser option. Wish him luck. By the time he is a senior, he should get some meaningful playing time. His loss, our gain. Good news is that this makes room for another player who wants to be a Vol. I think our other DE prospects will be great.

It's petty, but I don't wish the man luck. If he wanted to flirt with Auburn, he should've decomitted like Lauderdale to sort things out. I hope his degree is a good one, because I hope he rides the pine.

Butch be like....

How has Lamar Dawson at USC done?

Is that 1k yard receiver at UT and Indianapolis Colts WR Da'Rick?

And Bryce Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles?

sucks that he did it in this manner. look at m north for example. he could have waited till the last day last year and kept everyone in the dark and picked us on signing day. but thats not him. instead he called the unc coaches a couple of weeks before nsd and let them know he was going to committ to ut. total class! he was confident in his skills and didn't feel the need to drum up some extra publicity. obvioulsy, with the way lambert handled things, he's the opposite of class. also makes you wonder about his parents. just totally classless! imo we are better off without him if this is the way he handles himself

Our young DL is really going to have to step up. This might end up costing us a win or two.

NO! I couldn't disagree more. We will move on from this and be a better program. We still have talent at DT coming in that will contribute. Mosely might have something to say about that!!
