'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Man this one really hurts. We needed this guy badly. But it is his life, his decision to make, and his future that is on the line. I can't be mad at someone who made a decision that they think will give them the best opportunity. And I don't care what anyone says, best of luck to the young man. Seems like a good kid.

I'm sure the staff has a good backup plan in place as they definitely knew this was a possibility.

You'd think that you guys would re-consider believing everything you hear from these "fool-proof sources"...but alas here we go again?

It's garbage? Why because you don't like the truth?

I have explained before but will again.... just because it is you.

I was wrong.

I still absolutely support giving a coach 3 years barring something extraordinary to prove themselves. I no longer believe that coaches should be above criticism or that public criticism of public failures is something to avoid. I'll be respectful of the coaches... but if they don't get it done I'm not going to keep quiet.

I had a lot of reservations and criticisms I didn't voice of Dooley. I said repeatedly that if he didn't prove something by year three he had to go... because recruiting would suffer. He would be labeled a loser rightly or wrongly AND would be on a hot seat.

Same goes for Jones. If he doesn't win regardless of whether anyone thinks it is "fair" to expect him to... he has to go because he won't be able to sustain the level of recruiting needed to win. It may well be unfortunate but it is the new reality in the modern media age.

I still think a distinction should be made between this class and, say, the '12 class where we lost three probable instant contributors on JUCO signing day. There is plenty of DL talent signing with UT this year. Lambert would have been huge but given the overall shape this class is taking I don't think it's a portent of bad things to come unless, as you said, we don't show tangible improvement next year.

I apologize for getting on to you like that, though. Suffice it to say this news didn't make any of us happy.

Really? I have always taught my "good kids" that integrity, candor, honesty, commitment to their word... were the types of things that separated the good from the bad.

You just don't do things this way and if you are a "good" parent you don't allow it to happen. If you can't fulfill an obligation or change your mind then you tell the losing party straight up. You don't play games with them.

A man is only as good as his word.

I Am A #VFL !!!! Who don't Understand That??? I'm Sleep People Playing games and stuff ! #VolNation #Standup

We got Santosed again. It sucks but it happens every year to every team, it's just part of recruiting. Hopefully we can get a flip of our own to take his place.

Have you read any of 74's last couple of posts?

Do not wish this POS any luck, save that for someone worth it... Like me when I buy my next lottery ticket.

Everyone anticipated Santos flipping a mile away. It was no secret if Texas came calling he was their's.

I am sorry but I can't wish anybody who does this to us good luck. I don't expect any different from fans of other schools who have players flip to the Vols at the last second. Why did he not just decommit long before now. I will wish Booth good luck no matter where he goes because he didn't string the staff along until the last minute then $hit in their face. I will never say that I hope a kid gets hurt but I will say I hope his football career is a failure.

I wasn't trying to make the point that this was going to be the way of this particular class. I think you are actually agreeing with my point here. Dooley serves as the warning as does Fulmer.

I don't blame Jones but he did not get the class he needed in '13. He needs the homerun he appears to be getting this year and then has to start proving himself on the field. If he wants those commitments to keep coming in future classes then he has to win. This time next year, the buzz needs to be about how Jones coached his team to more wins than they should have had and made them more competitive than they should have been.

I apologize for getting on to you like that, though. Suffice it to say this news didn't make any of us happy.

No. But I am not a very emotional person. I go very quickly from disappointment, to assessment of implications, to possible outcomes, to.... OK what are the plans for the most likely contingencies.

This is just a bump in a long road if it is an isolated instance.
