'14 JUCO TX WR Kameel Jackson (UT walk-on)

This day feels like a weird dream. Bray and Rogers go undrafted, a 2013 guy commits or maybe he doesn't. A guy who we've never even heard of. A 2014 guy commits via twitter even though he may not even qualify and his hair looks like a garden gnome. Confusing.... Day is confusing

I think Eddrick Loften changed his name and is giving it one more shot. I highly doubt Kameel (cuh-meel) Jackson will ever make it to UT. I hope I'm wrong the kid can play.

Not sure about Jackson as obviously he was booted from OU for grades and after trying to go to A&M that did not work out either.

Johnson, IF he is actually trying to be a VOL seems like he would be alright grade wise.

“I’m really happy for Jonathan,” Friendswood head football coach and athletic director Steve Van Meter said. “Jonathan deserves to be at a Division I football program somewhere, and this is an ideal place for him.

“He told me that he didn’t want to go just anywhere to play football. He’s an NCAA qualifier right now so he could be at Blinn for a semester, show people what he can do and then land at a D1 college.”

I think that is where we are. Ya have to wonder how this all went down.

Call comes into CBJ, "Hey coach this is Kameel Jackson". "Me and my buddy JJ would like to be Vols".

CBJ: "Ya any good"?

KJ: "Hell yeah"!! "Check out Youtube and call us back"!

-CBJ and staff pushes play-

CBJ call them back: "Come on down'!

-Twitter goes crazy-

The End.

It happened just like that.

I know Kameel Jackson committed per twitter but I still have my doubts whether CBJ was expecting it or not. Either way I can't see him actually getting in school. Just my opinion though

Not sure what you mean by this? It sounds like your saying CBJ didn't know he was going to commit? Being head coach I'm sure he knew and accepted Jackson's and Johnson's commitment.

You know his grades?

He's completely basing it off the kid having previous grade issues, and it's a legitimate concern. JUCO's usually do a decent job at getting kids eligible, but they usually struggle immensely when they get back to four-year institution and half their classes don't count.

you may be right but this kid dropped out of ULM less then a month ago to get his grades up to "juco level". How could CBJ possibly have confidence that he will make the grades to get into UT.

Could be like the Patrick commitment. Most felt it was only good if he qualified. CBJ could have told the kid he would take his commitment, but he has to get the work done for it to mean anything.

I understand. I know he has grade issues, that's been gone over quite a bit around here.

But that's his past. If he still does, why would Butch offer him (atleast at this point in time)?

I'm not sure that's a big deal at this point. IF he can get in, he will have a whole season to play and his grade problems (if any) would not allow him to play the following season or bowl game. But that's way in the future.

Yes obviously if CBJ took the commitment it came with conditions and possibly even wasn't meant to be public. I'm just speculating I don't know. It just seems strange that we would take a commitment from this guy atm.

This from April 5, 2013

A ULM official confirmed to the Daily Oklahoman that Jackson has left the school in order to get his grades up at the JUCO level. Academic issues at OU led to Jackson ‘s suspension and eventual departure

Maybe he will do the work in JUCO and get qualified. He is listed on 247 main recruiting board now. Personally I will be pleasantly surprised if he makes it but I trust CBJ.

Johnson is a take if he an get out in May or this summer. The staff feels like they need some depth with only six scholarship receivers. As for Jackson, he's a December graduate and so he's a 2014 guy.

Not sure why we need so many receivers. We got Dallas, Young, Blanc, Carter, Pig, Croom, Bowles, Harris plus North, Jenkins, and Smith for the fall. 11 Receivers on scholarship

I believe I read that that is still the question and its not a sure thing yet if he is going to make it. But if he does come I can assure you CBJ OK'ed the commitment and is very aware of everything thats involved with this kid.

More on Kameel Jackson...

I will have a full story up in a few minutes. Here's the cliffs. Azzanni saw him play in the Blinn spring game on Thursday night. Offered right after that game. Jackson spoke with Azzanni and Jones on Friday. Prayed about it Friday night and committed around lunchtime today.

He has 2 to play 2 and his plan is to graduate from Blinn in December and be here in January.

6-2, 208. Tennessee was first to offer him this spring.

Something else that is important to Jackson is the opportunity to play with his brother. Kenzee is also considered to be a top notch receiver in his own right and led the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in receiving last season before tearing his ACL in the fourth game of the year. He had 319 yards and five touchdowns prior to the injury.

"I also hope that the school has interest in my brother," the younger Jackson said. "We want to play together and that should be the No. 1 thing I want to do."

This sounds a bit too Bryce Brownish for my tastes. Sort of having a pre-demand outlook. Don't think Butch buying into it, hope not. brother has 4.6 speed and is a WR? I think we need faster guys at WR but then again, I'm not a coach so. . . . In any case, I don't think the fanbase is in a mood for another Bryce Brown experience. Plus the kid has jumped around in his commitment. wanted to go to the next level? Previous schools of Oregon and Oklahoma would have made that possible. No offense to anybody including Kameel but I'm a bit uneasy about this apparent commit. Still, maybe the fact that so many Jones players got drafted is a factor for the kid so I may shooting my mouth off unfairly. :twocents:

Woodsman, ever since you defended my rear end in the Fourth of July thread last summer, I've wondered about your avatar: are you a believer in aliens or something? I know that's random, but I've just wondered since then. Thanks again for your help at that time. Even though I thought I was just being a good patriot, I felt like it was me against the world at the time before you stepped in.
