'14 JUCO TX WR Kameel Jackson (UT walk-on)

"Coach Azzanni came to watch my spring game on Thursday and Tennessee offered me right after that," Jackson said. "I spoke with coach Azzanni and coach Jones. Then I prayed on it. I woke up this morning and felt like it was the right place for me. I called them around 11 to tell them I wanted to be a Vol."

"I have never been there," Jackson said. "I have watched them television several times. But I really feel comfortable with things. I just got a great feel and comfort level in talking to them. I have watched all their spring practice highlights on the internet. I have watched videos of their interviews. I love the integrity and character of the coaches. I was watching the interview coach Azzanni did when he first got there and he was asked why he stayed and coached the Rose Bowl instead of coming on to Tennessee. He said he stayed because it was the right thing to do for his players at Wisconsin and that he needed to see them through the entire season. I thought that was big and says a lot about who coach Azzanni is. All of coach Jones' interviews were the same way. He has character and integrity. And I felt that when I talked to him on the phone. He's honest and just real with you about everything."

"As a player, you are always looking to improve. Get stronger and faster," Jackson said. "But finishing strong in the classroom is my first priority and coach Azzanni has made it clear the last couple of days that my focus must be on doing well so that I can be there in January."

"I want to see how the offense is run, what kind of team unity there is and how the coaches and players interact with each other," he

Something else that is important to Jackson is the opportunity to play with his brother. Kenzee is also considered to be a top notch receiver in his own right and led the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in receiving last season before tearing his ACL in the fourth game of the year. He had 319 yards and five touchdowns prior to the injury.

"I also hope that the school has interest in my brother," the younger Jackson said. "We want to play together and that should be the No. 1 thing I want to do."

This sounds a bit too Bryce Brownish for my tastes. Sort of having a pre-demand outlook. Don't think Butch buying into it, hope not. brother has 4.6 speed and is a WR? I think we need faster guys at WR but then again, I'm not a coach so. . . . In any case, I don't think the fanbase is in a mood for another Bryce Brown experience. Plus the kid has jumped around in his commitment. wanted to go to the next level? Previous schools of Oregon and Oklahoma would have made that possible. No offense to anybody including Kameel but I'm a bit uneasy about this apparent commit. Still, maybe the fact that so many Jones players got drafted is a factor for the kid so I may shooting my mouth off unfairly. :twocents:

Not sure why we need so many receivers. We got Dallas, Young, Blanc, Carter, Pig, Croom, Bowles, Harris plus North, Jenkins, and Smith for the fall. 11 Receivers on scholarship

In truth, I know nothing. However, I suspect CBJ wants a big WR corps so he can keep sending in fresh bodies to run the opposing secondary into the ground. When they're too tired to keep up with his best WRs the QB-WR batteries act like a Junkers Ju 87 bombers.

I'm not a coach but, I would think having 4-5 great WRs is a lot better plan than having 15 decent WRs and running them in and out. It's a lot easier for a QB to get in rhythm with a smaller group of guys. JMO

Woodsman, ever since you defended my rear end in the Fourth of July thread last summer, I've wondered about your avatar: are you a believer in aliens or something? I know that's random, but I've just wondered since then. Thanks again for your help at that time. Even though I thought I was just being a good patriot, I felt like it was me against the world at the time before you stepped in.

I did nothing special. I just call the shots as I see them.

About the alien thing, never met an alien. However, both as a child growing up in Tennessee and as an adult who lived out west for decades and saw things in the day and night skies at both high and low elevations that couldn't be manmade. That includes a cigar shaped craft with port holes and what appeared to be people looking down at my brothers and I. let's say I'd be a rather cooperative abductee being a stupidly curious guy.

On whether Jackson affects Kitt or Booth...

They would still take Kitt and I think Booth, but not sure on him. They definitely have a spot for Malone. I think the staff sees it as this:

Wharton - Ath
Creamer - Ath
Lee - slot
Kameel - outside

If that's correct, they could still take two or even three more depending on who wants in and where they fit. Creamer could eventually play D I think. He's going to be playing some LB and DE for his HS this season and I think that has a number of people intrigued, including me.

So ,we will see how things shake out. Being able to take 31, possibly 30 depending on Johnson, there's a lot of room for flexibility in terms of numbers.

Sure hope we start seeing some big nasties on the OL and DL commit along with some LB's soon. I know the staff knows what they're doing. I still feel nervous about it, especially on the DL since historically we struggle to recruit this position (for whatever reason).

We should talk. The alien abduction phenomenon is all in the mind of the abductee however that doesn't make it any less real. Reality itself is merely an illusion.

Wharton - Ath (slot or Nickel)
Creamer - Ath (TE or Defense)
Lee - slot
Kameel - outside
Kitt - Outside?
Truitt - WR/RB?
Autry - WR/RB?
Malone - outside

“I actually talked to (Tennessee wide receivers) coach (Zach) Azzanni first and he was really excited when I told him the news,” Jackson told InsideTennessee. “He talked a lot about the new direction of the Tennessee program and how I could help them with that plan. He was just really excited about the commitment.

“After I called him I called coach (Butch) Jones and I thought coach Jones knew I had committed, but we talked for like 10 minutes and I realized he didn’t know so I told him. He was really excited and said he was doing fist pumps. It was awesome.”

“I actually contacted coach Azzanni and let him know I would be interested in Tennessee,” he said. “He actually came out to my spring game and he ended up offering me that night.

“When I got the offer I was so excited. I actually pretty much knew right then that I wanted to come to Tennessee, but I wanted to give it a few days and pray about it. Then I woke up this morning and felt like a Volunteer and committed.”

“Tennessee actually offered me when coach (Lane) Kiffin was there when I was coming out of high school,” he said. “I liked Tennessee a lot, but Oklahoma was a better fit for me at the time.”

“Playing at Oklahoma really got me ready for coming back into big-time college football,” he said. “The Big 12 is a great conference that I think helped me be ready for the SEC. I went to a bowl game and did all that. Coach Stoops really coached me hard there and Coach Z says he is going to do the same thing at Tennessee. Being in a college weight program helped me a lot too so I know what to expect there.”

“The best part of my game is really my route running,” Jackson said. “When I was back at home I was actually working with a wide receivers coach that played in the NFL for a little while. He really helped me with that. Now I just want to polish my game and become an overall better receiver. The main thing is my blocking. I want to improve that this fall.”

Obviously 247 now hates us.

They have the Kameel commitment showing but buried it behind 4 other guys who committed much earlier today.

Latest commitments my as*!
