'14 KY DT Matt Elam

UK does not have the tradition UT does. I am sure many think if UT does not have a great season it could cause a few to look elsewhere, but CBJ has these guys I believe all in no matter how the season goes. He got a lot of early commitments and they have bonded and are very close. I think they will show a lot of support no matter how the season goes and will stay committed.

Every recruit UT has committed knows CBJ has his work cut out for him, but yet they still committed. Unlike Elam who seems to be a wait and see type of guy.

Never thought I'd give a Bama fan a like for anything. I feel the same way about our class. Coach has these guys on the same page. He's not promising a NC next season, but that they will be a part of the class that gets UT back in the discussion. It's not going to happen overnight and they know that (I wish some of our fans did too).

I agree with this and more. A lot of concern is expressed over the number of WR commits we have and 2 are JUCOs. If say Croom, North, and Howard emerge as stars this year I could see us losing some WR commits simply because they'd be looking for playing time that might be harder to find at UT if we had established stars. So on field performance can work both ways particularly given the youth and talent we presently have at least at the WR position.

On the other hand, if Croom and one or two others ball out, they could leave after next season, which would mean a '14 recruit would be a RS freshman or sophomore with plenty of playing opportunities.

This dude is huge, would be a great get, I don't understand some of the schools not offering, are there attitude or grade concerns?

I haven't been following his recruitment and just checked out his profile. He has great size at 6'6"/325 lbs.:good!:

My opinion, albeit a high school coach, whoever gets this kid gets a major steal. Matt loves the Vols.

From Ron's original thread-starting post.. I really hope we didn't burn any bridges by offering so late, but maybe this is one of those hidden surprises that's been kept super hush-hush, and probably will be til NSD.

So you don't think Elam is a part of the "full" class?

I don't think there is any chance they slow played him as long as they did, no offer, and upon finally getting one he jumped at it. I would think we are at about 20% at best landing Elam right now. Still think he picks UK.

The coaches could very well have just passed on Ford. I wanted to see us get at least 1 of him and C. Williams as I think they are very similar. I think Williams is on board, so it leaves Ford as the odd man out. I wanted to get 1 of Humphreys and Barnett and I think Derek has taken the spot. Add in Mosley, and we are good to go. I would have been fine adding a 4th DT. Seems the coaches are not going that route.

Fortenberry says Elam's athleticism is through the roof. UT playing catch-up right now but he loves Stripling's honesty with him. Right now probably 3 behind UA and UK.

6'5 360 claims to have run a 4.9 hah absurd if true... P Fort does say that everyone confirms his athleticism is great and after dropping some bad weight he could be a player following a year or two in the system.

Hopefully the slow playing was honest and represented a change in direction of Strips preference of a DL guy. Maybe we can work our way to the top of his list.
