'14 KY DT Matt Elam

On the other hand, if Croom and one or two others ball out, they could leave after next season, which would mean a '14 recruit would be a RS freshman or sophomore with plenty of playing opportunities.

Not sure Mama Croom is gonna let Jason leave till he graduates. I guess if he has his degree after his JR season she would.but dont see Croom with a RS leaving before his JR year. So we got him atleast 3 yrs. Think he blows up this yr and makes the all FR team along with North and Vereen and a QB.

Fugate was a soft blocker, Bart took his spot fair and square.

Not even close to being true. He wasn't a soft blocker. And prior to a couple freshman mistakes at UGA he was the starting FB up until the UGA game. So I'm not sure how the job was won by Bart. The job was given to Bartholemew. Keep in mind...he was a freshman. But that was then...this is now. Butch would soooooo kick Dooley's arse.

As much as I love Butch as our coach, this is the one thing he didn't do...

Elam is the same size approx as McCullers, I think this year will give us some insight as to whether some one that size can play a normal DT position. They're both more 3-4 technique players, so not sure how well they'll be able to do in the 4-3.

You got me. LOL
I was referring to taking them out back and drawing a circle...letting them go at it.

it would also be interesting to see what a Dooley led Cinci team would do against a Butch coached UT team.

I watched him pass up blocks with my own eyes. He wasnt interested in blocking and when he did he never cleaned out any holes against similar/smaller defenders. He's better suited on st's.

It's not so much about size as it is athletic ability. We had some gargantuans back in the 90s and they did just fine in the 4-3.

Still offered him the summer before his senior year... That's really not late guys

5 years ago, I agree. Today, it is very late. Once a kid has 10+ offers, your usually on the outside looking in unless your the home state school and the kid grew up a huge fan. Recruiting has changed and early offers and evaluation are a big part of it.

We definitely were not early with the offer but, on the plus side, he "loved" us before he had any offers.
