'14 KY DT Matt Elam

The fact that UT continues to be added to Elam's list is encouraging. Hopefully we can get him to take an official visit this fall.

"There was obviously a lot of excitement from Tennessee fans last Friday when Kentucky defensive tackle Matt Elam was offered by the Vols. While Tennessee may certainly receive an official visit from Elam this fall, the Vols are playing major catch up here. The front runners are Ohio State and Alabama and the Vols are going to have to make up a ton of ground.

It's not impossible, but for those saying the Vols have a good shot because at one time he really liked Tennessee need to probably slow down with that thought process."

Hubbs translation: long shot at best at the moment.

Long way to go on this one, hence the offer. We have plenty of time to make up ground he is not going to commit anytime soon.

If you're going to be a rival poster on this board, at least bring decent info into the equation. Who are these "most coaches" and "observers" that you speak of? If possible, try and be a little more vague next time.

Saying Connor Humphreys was a better prospect than Elam with nothing to back it up was a pretty vague comment but never mind that.

The coaching staffs at OSU, ND, Louisville, Bama, Kentucky, and Florida are a few. These staffs have him on top or near the top of their DL board and have credible defensive minds there ( Saban, Smart, M.Stoops, Diaco, and Strong).

My understanding is that he dropped UF from consideration when they refused to offer him until they had evaluated him. UF needs DTs and Elam's bulk would seem to be helpful in the middle, just I don't believe he was ever that high on the UF board.

Of course not, or he would be commited...

I said he dropped us. I just think the poster should have omitted UF from the numerous coaching staffs he cited as being high on Elam. And I agree he looks good to me. And we have lost a ton of guys that we wanted.

I heard Florida wanted to see him at camp, and he refused. Said they should offer him based on his highlight film, then he bashed Joker on twitter for not offering him

Thanks for backing me up. Same story I heard.

I also heard on TSR that he really didn't play against the best competition either. He was like a man amongst boys in his HS games. I also heard that he looked good in some camps as well. Who knows.

yeah I think Elam is a better fit as a pure NG, UF seems to like the more quicker , smaller (weight wise) in their system since they run a 4 DL front more than anything. They haven't been recruiting the NG types since Muschamp's been there

When he visited UF he wasn't highly ranked either, he was considered a 89 overall 3 star on 247 but after a few months on the camp circuit he jumped up to a 99 overall.
