'14 KY DT Matt Elam

All I know is UK's staff looks totally incompetent out there on the sidelines.

They didn't look too stupid on that on sides kick off as that was a thing of beauty.

What would posses a guy on the opposite side of where the kick was headed to be off sides? This has to drive coaches absolutely crazy. Even a 12 year old shouldn't make that dumb of a mistake.

...Well neither did Dooley when they pulled off that on-side kick against CBJ and Cincy in 2011...

As for me personally, those guys still look like they are completely in over their heads as a staff.

Mississippi State is terrible. Last night was the perfect storm for UK to pull out a win, between all the injuries State had last night, and all the boneheaded penalties (including the ejection of their best DB) they continued to get that kept UK in the game.

All I know is UK's staff looks totally incompetent out there on the sidelines. Maybe having all those guys "under 45" isn't the smartest thing in the world ...something he's tried to sell to recruits. The whole hype that Stoops family gets is rather ridiculous IMO.

Excellent post. Fully agree. Doesn't mean that Stoops/staff will not make good decisions on occasion like the onside kick. Just means that the program will probably not improve all that much against a very tough SEC because he and his staff are not as competent as their peers.

“i feel like there is nobody there, so i have a great opportunity,” elam said of notre dame’s nose guard depth chart heading into next season. “i don’t know how good i’ll be, but i got to be better than air, so it’s a nice opportunity to start as a freshman, and the defense is a three-front and playing nose guard is probably where i fit and play best.”

coming into the visit, notre dame was in elam’s top three along with alabama and kentucky.

“they definitely will stay in my top three. It definitely opened my eyes to them a lot more,” elam said. “just a different type of feel, more traditional and real focused more on the academic side along with the football aspect.”

“they are more than what comes to the eye,” elam said. “it is a great place there and a lot of tradition is in that place.

“just the game itself was insane. It was crazy. The atmosphere was insane. I enjoyed the game and the relationships that i built with the coaches and recruits.”

Hope for his sake that he's smart enough to accept the ND offer and not settle for the grease fire that is Kentucky football.

I would rather hope he'd "settle" for UT.... but if not then I hope its ND. He'll waste his talent bad if he goes to UK.

Nothing groundbreaking, but Hubbs said there is nothing going on between Elam and UT. He said UK has started to emerge as the favorite.

Good luck with that, Matt. Gonna be a brutal four yrs. UT was never in it.

Yeah, gave up on this kid a while ago. Then he posted a pro Bammer comment, after the Vols got whipped down there. Dunno if Bama's gainin ground on him or maybe he's just an old hardcore UK fan and liked seeing UT lose. Whichever it is, I can't help but look forward to UT stomping UK on their home field this year. I believe it could be Dobbs' breakout game. No way UK keeps that game even close this year...

Plus the resources, passion, and tradition for football exist for UT, just needs to be reignited, whereas UK has never had it, unless you count the Bear days.

There's always been passion for UK football. Far more than UT fans like to admit. UK athletics has shown football some love recently, the stadium is being renovated in the future and more resources are given to the football program than in the past.

Yes, this school doesn't have a deep history in football. But that's not were selling here. We're selling that if recruits come here and work hard then we can be a relevant program in the ncaa. I don't see what's wrong with saying that. That is how every successful program has started at one point or another.

Elam is still a UK lean IMO. He's taking a trip to Bama. But from all I've heard he loves the UK family atmosphere with the coaches and other recruits.

This Kid is going to UK my sources tell me that if we would have got in the game early we'd of had him but I've heard some things locally (I'm a Knoxvillian in exile to where this Kid is from) that make me glad we didn't get him. Not a mature kid and it's going to stand in his way. Idk if Butch knew that or he just got lucky. Time will tell though.

The one thing I learned in this thread is that UK actually has a fan or two! They post on Volnation cuz they do not have a football Forum of their own because 2 fan would make a lame site.
