'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

you may want back track on this thread, but nonetheless, its cool i for one am not gone sit back and not defend my child, like i said before when he gets here, and plays, you folks can criticize all you want, but damn, let him enroll first, and if his play requires negative criticism we will live with that, we will except that just like we will except praise when he plays well.

Glad to have your son as a VOL! I could only dream of having his size and talent as a high-school FB player….

Tennessee has done well with guys like Jerome over the years--Darryl Hardy, Parys Haralson, Horace Morris, Kevin Burnett, Raynoch Thompson, and others…GO VOLS! Wish Jerome the very best and God-speed as a VOL! :salute:

I don't disagree with you at all. First of all, I do not recommend that parents of athletes visit this board. Many of us cringe at the things that are said and the way some folks act towards others. There are a lot of posters that are not representative of the good people of East Tennessee and their values, nor the southern hospitality and gentility that you will find. As a graduate of UT, I owe much of my success to the relationships and the support that I received from the community where I grew up.

Spend some time there and you will soon understand what I'm talking about.
We look forward to it

I'm not brother, just trying to set the record straight, i totally understand fans will be fans negative or positive, but i have a voice as well, and i will say what needs to be said, but he really does appreciate the Vol fans, and the program thats all he talks about is Tenn this and Tenn that, he is really excited to be part of Tenn!

That's awesome. Looking forward to seeing what he can do in Orange.

There are just some things a man doesn't realize unless he's a parent. One is defending your child, which I completely understand and applaud. I'll never forget the first time I felt that as a dad. It's like no other feeling.

I hope you understand that virtually every single person in this fan base is excited to see your son show out in orange. We are also very hopeful that he continues to develop and exceed the evaluations to date. From your perspective I'm sure it appears that some may be judging your son erroneously on here. Coming from a casual and outside observer, be reassured that I don't sense any major negativity other than a couple question marks (mostly Jerome's youthful age).

Thank you for posting on here. Having posters so close to the players like yourself, MZTerry, etc. is what makes this place so great. :salute:

I hope every company can kinda properly hire somebody. All I would want are hard workers with enough talent. How do you weed out the idiots from the smart ones is my question?

It is actually easier than you might think... but you have to pay attention to very subtle things and what people actually say. Probably the most prevalent error interviewers make is to "hear" a person say what the interviewer wants them to say rather than what they actually said.

I start with pretty simple questions then target things in their answers for follow up.

"Why do you want this job?"

"Describe someone you felt you worked well with"

"Tell me about a time you had conflict with someone at work and how you handled it".

"Tell me what you think makes a good supervisor... someone you enjoy working for" (If they say someone who pats them on the back alot then that's a concern since they may be "needy". I need folks who find satisfaction in doing the right thing)

Basically, I ask starter questions like these... then start picking the answers apart by asking more questions... sorta like I do you guys here sometimes except it doesn't come off antagonistic in person. I want to know things that the applicant did not come to the interview to tell me about how they relate to other people and their attitude about work.

Most companies do not hire that well. I've worked for a few companies now. Oddly enough, most companies spend little time training their managers to interview and hire. It took me time to really start noticing the important things. It is similar to knowing how to "do" college. What's important? What's not? What do you study multiple times? What do you glance over?

I have posted this opinion many times here on VN

Message boards are no place for parents or family members of players. Way too much pain and heartache is inevitable. The negative far exceeds the positive.

It completely can sour a persons impression of a fan base(see Arian Foster). I would even say if the Manning family had been here things would have soured for them. The vocal minority of idiots don't need to be heard by family members.

Wait guys....

So when people said Zach Stewart and even Todd Kelly Jr. played bad competition, it's ok. Nothing about them as a player, only their competition.

When I say that about Dews' competition, I'm Harvey Updyke and part of the idiotic fanbase, and even posing as a fan of another team.

Makes sense.
