'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

We probably wont know until signing day, but we are fine either way

I take it you mean he may just enroll January 2015 instead of signing? Just waiting to see if a slot opens? Is there any chance he enrolls in the fall and you guys pay one semester and go on scholly in January? Excited to see your son don the big orange!

Would be great for this young man to redshirt. I was his age going to college and gained 10-15 pounds of muscle during my first year out. Wish i would have had an extra year of high school. Makes a huge difference

Let me say also im excited about this kid. By the time hes a soph or jr hes gonn roll back into his high school for a bball game or something and everyone gonna be like damn!

Agree. Was 17 too and that one extra year of maturity, both physically and mentally are huge.

Dews seems to have a frame where he could easily put on 30-40 pounds in the next year or two. Underrated and undervalued IMO.

This one is becoming my favorite recruit.

Hope he plays with a chip on his shoulder because he does have a lot to prove on the field but his willingness to grey shirt has proven all he needs to that he has great desire to wear the orange and white. It will be special to see such a kid excell!

Hats off to this kid!

So much upside with this kid, especially when you consider that his head is on right. Him being just 17 has not got enough attention. Those extra few months of development that he still has to go through compared to other 2014s could be huge.

This kid is Chris Weatherd 2.0 IMO.

Both will play LEO.
Similar frame.
Both are quick.
Both edge rushers.
Both under-appreciated out of high school.

I agree. Edge rusher with the ability to play in space as a zone LB is kind of the whole concept of the LEO as I understand it.

Allows Jancek to mask the blitz when you have, for example, Johnson, Bates, and Dews on the field. 1-2 of them are likely going to be rushing your passer but you don't know which and if it's not Dews he's not a liability in coverage the way a true rush end would be.

There was a UC blog posted last year that broke down film on how they used the LEO at UC.

Hubbs reiterated that Dews isn't scheduled to visit this weekend and he has a hard time seeing him a part of the '14 class.
