If we land Scott today, I don't believe Paulk is asked to look around. I believe the gray shirt option has been discussed with him, if we needed an extra spot opened up. I think he has agreed to that if need be for the class, because we stuck by him when he blew his knee out, when many big programs would tell him to look around and not take the chance. We remained loyal to him with his scholarship offer, and I believe he will be loyal to us, even if it means him being an EE for the 2015 class.

Larry(LWS) said we needed to lose a few more. Why not Paulk? Everyone adopted this mercenary disposition with Mouhon saying it was okay if CBJ told him to look around as he would never compete here. The same might be said of Paulk. He already comes in at a disadvantage coming off an injury. Then he faces the possibility of getting recruited over next year. The inadversity of our depth chart seems to be much like what others argued Mouhon would face.

If you're going to look at this from a "screw what we told kids, we need to win now" POV, which some seem to have adopted, then losing Paulk makes sense. I don't think it's right, but I expressed the same opinion about Mouhon if our staff had asked him to go elsewhere only to be told "that's recruiting". Similar scenario here IMO so people need to be consistent on what is and is not okay in recruiting.

IMO, Paulk is a better RB prospect than Mouhon is a LB prospect. I do not think Paulk gets recruited over. I think once he is recovered from his injury he can be a very good RB.

I have never been of the opinion that we treat our recruits like a lot of other schools do. I tend to value a commitment and will always push to honor and or keep that kid IF he is doing things the right way. Paulk has been 100% Vol all along and I would not want to see us cut him loose because he left it all out on the field. If it came down to taking Paulk or Scott, I take Paulk every day w/out hesitation. If he was a take the day they took him, he is a take today IMO.

The Mouhon situation I'm not sure about. If he were asked to look around, I think it's wrong and the staff will hurt itself going forward doing that to kids. IF Kevin decided to take the cinci visit on his own, then I have no issue with him being put on the chopping block. Without knowing exactly how it went down, I can't say if I'm OK with it or not.

I'll say this though. IF the staff is going to drop a kid who takes visits this late, it should go for everyone who does it. Not just those viewed as expendable based on how the class has filled up.

I agree, but it's a strong reality that he's an after signing day option. Grayshirts are made for this type of situation. It gives both parties some guarantees. I love Paulk and want him here, but a grayshirt is what I'd offer if I were in Butch's shoes.

I doubt they'd ask Paulk to look around. Grayshirt I guess could be a possibility and then bring in two more RB's next year (him being one of them). The RB situation is every bit as bad as DE and DT. It's just scary how God awful the shape this roster was left in. I've never seen anything like it.

So Montrell, who are the RB's for the '15 class that we are the most interested in? I've heard Swinney but who else would be a possibility besides Paulk grayshirting.

Not Montrell, but Swinney and Jaason Lewis.

Swinney and Patrick #1

Swinney and Weber #2

With Harris opening things back up and being from Kentucky, he may also be an option and would be a huge pull.

Lewis may be called a RB, I see no way he ends up playing RB. I think he will be a TE/HB.

I agree with the OP. Swinney and Lewis. You have to give Lewis a shot there if he wants it. I've said before I think LB is where he could be an All-American, but if he wants to play RB you let him because he's just to good of a talent to pass on. The Gibson kid out of AL is another, but I have no idea what kind of shot they may have with him. Same with Patrick out of FL, probably a longshot though.

If they get 3 RBs in the 2014 class, I could see them just taking Swinney and Lewis for 2015 with a small class and numbers quickly becoming an issue. With Lewis already being almost 240lbs, I just can't see him staying at RB.

I agree with that. I dont see Lewis ending up at RB either, he may get a shot there at first but I dont see him staying there no matter what school he chooses. I could see them just taking Swinney as well if Paulk is in this class. If they want two backs again though a guy like Gibson would be a perfect compliment to a bigger back like Swinney. Just like Scott/Paulk and Hurd are in this class.
