I'm liking all the effort already going towards the 2014 prospects. It's never too early to start recruiting for next year and the dead period is a good time to get that started.

I know he is just a junior so he can still get more offers, but offer list doesn't match star rating imo. Yes, I know stars are not everything just saying.

“Tennessee, which is the first SEC offer, that’s pretty nice,” “It’s a really good one.

He also knows the new Vols staff.

“I know Cincinnati was recruiting me pretty hard and they were supposed to offer me, but when that staff moved to Tennessee, I knew an offer would actually come.

“I built a relationship with the Cincinnati staff my freshman year. I talked to them over the years and when they moved to Tennessee and they put in the tape, they really liked me and offered me.”

Getting the first offer out of the SEC for kids like this is huge. It doesn't ever seal the deal but it sure does put us ahead of the pack to start out.

2014 four-star running back Shai McKenzie of Washington, Pa., continues to pile up the offers, and on Tuesday added two more from Penn State and Wisconsin. However, at this point McKenzie is leaning toward playing in the SEC and warmer weather. Tennessee is his only SEC offer, but look for more to arrive in the coming months. If he does stay more local, Pittsburgh has the best chance at this time, and the Panthers have done a solid job keeping Western Pennsylvania kids home lately, aside from Robert Foster -- who could still flip. Counting out the Panthers would be premature.

"It's kind of hard to make a relationship at this time in the recruiting process," said the 6-foot, 212-pound McKenzie. "It's either 'you want me or you don't.' Some coaches don't want me but there are also a lot that do. If they like me and I show some interest then I usually get an offer but I know I cant get to 30 schools so eventually I'll make a top ten."

"I've developed a good relationship with Tennessee and with Coach Mahoney," he said. "I had a good relationship with one of the Rutgers coaches but he isn't there anymore so I haven't really been in touch with them as much as I was. I have a pretty good relationship with Coach Caponi from Arizona. I give him a call every once in a while just to talk.

"I plan on trying to see Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech, possibly on one trip to make it easier," said McKenzie. "I also want to get to Arkansas, North Carolina and maybe Tennessee. We haven't actually made decisions about visiting schools yet until I start narrowing down my list."

"It's more about whatever fits me," he said. "I'm not necessarily only looking at SEC schools but I know that's where the best football is. Playing with the best and being with the best makes you into the best so I'm not only looking at the SEC but I'm trying to find where I fit the best."

There was something on ESPN the other day on him as well. Spoke very favorable of Georgia, family connections I believe.

His added Tennessee, Florida State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Wisconsin were “among” the schools recruiting him the hardest, but time constraints keep him from talking regularly with coaches from all the schools that extended offers.

I really think that we will be adding another top rated RB this year. Not saying it will be Shai, but I think we pull another good one.

A very select group of players in the 2014 class have more than 30 scholarship offers. One of them is Shai McKenzie. The running back from Washington (Pa.) has been entertaining a ton of coaches and media members but it has started to weigh on him.

"Narrowing my list was going to happen sooner or later so I might as well get all the hate and judgment out of the way," said the 6-foot, 212-pound McKenzie. "I'm not going to make a commitment until the time comes. I think I'll commit at one of the All-American games if I'm there but if not it'll probably be on signing day."

The Rivals250 running back announced on Twitter yesterday that he has cut his list down to 15 schools. In no order, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Arkansas and South Carolina all made the cut. McKenzie briefly explained why he is still considering each school.

Tennessee - "I've been talking to Tennessee for roughly seven months now," McKenzie said. "Some of their staff is from West Virginia so I've been talking to them for a long time. They're in the SEC and play big time football. They're another team I've been building a good relationship with."

McKenzie already knows when he will be making his next cuts.

"I will narrow it down to 10 in May because I want to speed it up a little bit so I'm not getting called all the time," he said. "It's subject to change and there are teams that will get knocked out and some that could move up. I've been talking to Auburn, LSU and Miami.

It seems as though a few schools have done a good enough job recruiting McKenzie to make it into the round.

"Some schools that will for sure make the next cut are Pittsburgh, Florida State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia," he said.

McKenzie will display his talents when the Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour hits Pittsburgh on April 28.

The schools still in play among that top 15 are, alphabetically, Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

"There's not too many running backs in the nation who are six-foot, 212 pounds that run as fast as I do," he said. "I'm pretty shifty and in the 100-meters in track, I ran a 10.68. That's pretty fast for someone my size. It's basically the balance I have. In shot put, I can throw it 52 feet. I have a balance with strength and speed and that's a good fit for the next level."

kid has a lot of confidence in himself, of course if these numbers are accurate its definitely warranted. im guessing this kid would definitely be one we would take as a 3rd back?

I would guess Mixon, Scott, or McKenzie would be options IF an "elite" 3rd back was taken.

The Kinlaw situation is the one that has me curious what the staff is thinking. It's almost like he is being told to wait and I'm not sure why. To me, he is either a take or not. Maybe his chances depend on what happens with Jabo.

I fully see Jalen Hurd starting in 14 regardless of how good anyone is this year or next year. With that being said. This kid sounds great!
