14 points is all that seperated us from a 5 game winning streak that would have included 4 wins over top 25 teams.

We may not have a smart team, but we have a mentally tough team with a mentally tough coach. Not many teams can bounce back from 3 really tough losses and then beat the defending national champion

the last time I saw a UT team improve this much over the course of a season we ended up in the elite 8

About 4 weeks ago we were all furious over the terrible perimeter defense and the poor rotations in the low post. A new lineup and a blue chip later it would appear those are distant memories

I don't care what anyone says, this team plays better with the crowd backing them up. Make an effort and go to a game if possible, you won't regret it.

You want to know what Josh Richardson would look like when he develops his offense and his body in the off-season? Jefferey Taylor

This team has made strides. Huge strides. It's a testament to the players for their willingness to work and for listening to their coach, who's now doing a fantastic job with the program.

I think people need to understand how young this team. Only one player has actual SEC experience: Cam Tatum. That's why we have lost almost all the close game. We are just inexperienced.

Agree. Cam is the only experienced player. Hall and Maymon played limited roles in the last 2 years. The offense and turnovers were horrible at GA and inability to hit free throws lost the game. They need to do better on the road to really compete.

The turnovers have to improve. It may be that there are times they are trying to play too fast that cause the TOs as well as trying to force the ball in the paint. Hopefully these faults can be corrected with coaching and practice.

It's hard not to be excited about the team and the program as a whole at this point.

that is another good point, we took care of the ball against UCONN and it paid dividends

Richardson seems to have a lot of upside. He hit a couple of shots at the beginning of the game. He was really tenacious as a defender. I really like his game.

It's funny that do many ppl called this upset though.. That's kinda just what UT basketball does.. We play down to competition, but we play up to competition at home, and especially out of conference.. Not just this year

Nice post, OP, and everyone else so far. Better say it before the goofy comments start.

I wish people understood BB is about consistent tough defense, ball handling, rebounding, and match ups - and not about who has the flashiest games. Sometimes they crucify guys like McBee, when he and Maymon have improved the most since last season. Please don't display BB ignorance by saying McBee can't match up against a quicker PG. Everybody knows that. McBee is a SG having to play against PGs at times and is doing a great job defending against other SG. The same with Maymon. Maymon has to be fed the ball in a position he can use his strength and body size to gain an advantage. If he doesn't get the ball there he will not be as effective.

Read posts like the OP's and you will get more of the truth of what is going on. I am a huge supporter of what Coach Zo is doing. I am so proud he chose to come to UT, when he could have gone other places.

I really like the kid too

When Josh was being recruited Coach Martin was asked what kind of player was Josh and what position he would play

Coach Martin replied "he is a basketball player"

that pretty much sums it up

If this tean continues to defend as they have turnovers become huge and ccm knows that that's why it's been so big to him. We will be in every game with our defense we just can't give the ball away.

14 points equals a 5 game winning streak, but they have also missed 35 free throws over those 5 games. Shoot better from the line and it will be hard to beat this team! GO VOLS!!!

Our defense will keep us in every game. If we can just get Golden, Maymon, Tatum and Stokes all scoring consistently we could go on a nice run.

Turnovers and free throws. Two stats you can probably count on deciding games for us.

I cant wait till richardson becomes a more offensive threat...that guy's gonna be a pure beast for this team. Those first two shots he hit to open the game were major!

Cam really showed nice patience yesterday. As coach stated Cam just needs to play within himself and not try to make plays that he is not capable of making. We need his leadership down the stretch. This team has a chance for a big run if they can minimize the turnovers.

Do you guys think free throws have declined some is because Zo is focused on defense and offense with so many new guys. We came out on fire at being of year and were shooting them pretty good. i feel like he has to pick his poison with so many things to work on. Tough call by him as to what to work on!!!!

This could be but it needs to then be on the players to get shots up after practice.

We're still at 67.5% for the year.
Last 2 games pretty bad, but have
shown they can do 75% or better in games.

Just a matter of getting all the parts working together in each game. Look out in February.

I agree. Free throw percentage is based on repetition and mechanics. Look at the great free throw shooters like Calvin Murphy, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, etc. These are guys that before the rest of the team even got there they were practicing free throws. If you shoot enough of them it becomes second nature. Hope it catches on to our guys. GBO

yea i see CCM as being the type of coach who expects all his guys to be above 70%, and for our guards to be above 80%.
