'14 SC DT Poona Ford

Whom does Poona compare to at a collegiate or pro level? I'm excited about our prospects with this guy.

Very much reminds me of Booger McFarlane from LSU back in the early 00s. A more recent guy with the Falcons he kinda favors game-wise is Jonathan Babineaux. He’s got some similarities to Shariff Floyd, only Floyd is built like a hog and Ford is built like a pterodactyl (limb-length).

I almost posted Babs earlier. Nice comparison. Btw Rise Up!

He's a terrible fit in the system he's in right now. He was a beast at LSU though.
He's with the 49ers now. He didn't think he was too bad of a fit in a 3-4 (although the Niners run more of a hybrid between a 3-4 and a 4-3) if he signed to a new team running a similar scheme..

Oh I wasn't aware he has signed with the 9ers. Not sure why he chose them over a 4-3 team where he thrived so well in college. Maybe they were his best offer! Dunno seems odd though.

They did have a good offer. Also before this goes too far the Niners do run more of a mix between a 4-3 and a 3-4 like I said. Dorsey will be a backup there though. McDonald and Justin Smith are two of the best 3-4 DL (or 4-3 DTs) in the game

Yeah the article d3ft just posted isn't too long but it gives a good insight into the defense they run and the way they want Dorsey to fit into. I understand why they think he can fit into their D now. But thanks for the response OF.

Why's Urban going to eff Butch's furniture?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Following the "effing" of Butch's couch, he stands up and says " I'm Urban Meyer Mother effer!"

This is possibly due to his feeling towards Butch due to Butch taking recruits from him.

If Dorsey was on the Falcons, Broncos, or Vikings he’d be a household name. Played totally out of position at 5-tech for years. He’ll have a big year with the new (old) position with the 49ers: How Glenn Dorsey Fits into the San Francisco 49ers' Defense

Also of note, Jancek’s defense uses some of this concept as well.

Good article. McCullers would be our nose, Couch our under tackle, J. Smith will be the right defensive end but will be in a 3-point stance, and then Walls the left defensive end/strong side C-gapper.

"What kind of grown ass man is just gonna grind his shoes up into another man's couch??...... Yeah I remember grinding my shoes in his couch. Cocaine is one hell of a drug"

I was just goofing off… No more speculation as to who C2P is. However, I wish he would hurry up and get back on the board, and tell us that Poona will be committing to the Vols this weekend.

Both are under fronts. Very similiar.
Sort of. The Niners have mostly 3-4 looks and there line resembles it, while Seattle mostly has 4-3 looks with a standing DE. The difference isn't big but is definitely noticeable. Especially when you look at the LBs on both teams. Seattle has 3 LBs like a 4-3 defense that they rotate out of while the Niners have 4 in which one is Aldon Smith who mostly rushes the passer. Similar styles, but not exactly the same concept. We should be running almost a clone of Seattle's D, which is similar to the 49ers. I'm just hoping our defense is good this year...

I think if our DB's play well we can have a pretty good year on defense. I think moving back to a 4-3 base, especially the under variant of the 4-3, we should be a top 30 Defense again

K. I think Poona commits sometime next week after he gets back from this trip and evaluates everything.

Should be a Vol, but still worried till I hear from C2P post Ohio St. Visit...that could be a gamechanger.

Yep, I think our defense will just be better all around. We have playmakers, they just haven't been coached at all. We finally have somebody who knows what they ate doing after 3 years of Dools.
