'15 CA QB Sheriron Jones (UT Signee 2/4/15)

TIFIW: It was stated on the Swain Event today that QD and Jones were both at UT when Gruden was there helping evaluate QBs. According to Swain, Seth and Callahan, the coaches liked QD just a little bit better than Jones but the coaches would have been OK taking either one.

Interesting

This stuff needs to be in another thread. I dislike AJ for what he did, rape or just sleeping with a teammate's girl. He was a leader to our team and acted like an idiot. Younger members are supposed to be able to look up to him and he blew it big time. You lead by example, and he embarrassed himself and he embarrassed UT!

Since he is now the past lets get back to the future and if Mr Jones can get Mr Jones to be a VOL.
You don't know what happened, so don't make a judgement.

I'm curious what % chance everyone gives us of landing Sheriron? I think after looking at his highlights he has a good chance to get a starting job here.

And that was way back when (according to our internet coaching geniuses) Butch Jones and Bajakian had no idea that their offense would run more efficiently with a dual threat Qb at the helm.

If Butch and company thought he was close to QD back then, now that they've been enlightened, it won't even be comparable.

It would be hard to put a number on so I won't but I will say he named us his leader and we have 2 QBs committed plus Dormady available in bowl practices so idk what the staff is thinking but I'll trust them. If peterman decides to leave then I understand their line of thinking.

So you are saying there is a chance :)

Law enforcement has clammed up. Probably orders from on high. With all of the bad stuff going on all over the country in the media the quieter it all gets the better IMO. At least it is for a mutually acceptable conclusion that has a lot of she said/he said.

Maybe but I would not be so sure of that myself.

QD is the 5th ranked dual threat QB on 247. I think he gets under sold as a runner.

I think that if UT wants him bad enough they can sign him but I doubt they add a 3rd QB. Although I wish they would.

I'd say right now it's ~20% chance Jones signs with UT. JMO

Makes sense. He'll probably end up at UF or Ole Miss if he does not sign with UT. I'm good with the two we have now but if we get close to NSD and still have a spot I could see CBJ making a push for him.

Yeah. This is gonna be a weird recruitment. OM got a JUCO QB and UF says he doesn't fit the system so I wouldn't be surprised if we got him or he went somewhere out west. Will be interesting no matter where he goes.

JJ is the 5th ranked duel threat guy, although QD certainly can move.

My bad. I read an article about QD and I thought they said he was.

Edit: here it is ~

“It’s good that I can get up there and everything worked out here in high school to finish up. I’m definitely looking forward to it,” said Dormady, who’s ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 189 overall prospect and No. 5 dual-threat quarterback.

Well, shoot. I tried to make sure that even those with the most irreparably broken sarcasm detectors could tell that I was joking in my post - I even put one word in blue. Apparently it wasn't enough!

To clarify - I was making fun of people who don't understand that Dormady is a competent QB for our offense.

Yeah, it totally went over my head.

I just note that CBJ did not recruit/offer/or pursue any other QBs since early June when QD committed. If he wanted a 3rd QB, why did he not do it then? It's just a coincidence that it's literally the week the EEs are more less locked in? Got it. You can view it how ever you need to. I see it how I see it. I've seen this maneuver before.

You have absolutely no proof that Butch has not pursued any other QBs since QD committed. Did he personally tell you that?

Why do you have such a problem with having 3 good QBs compete?

JJ is going to be an All American Safety. It is sad that other Vol Fans don't realize this.

"Tennessee continues to be a factor for Sheriron Jones but the main question in this situation may be numbers. Can the Vols fit another quarterback in the class with so many needs across the board elsewhere?

Regardless, Jones maintains he will visit in January and by then the numbers question may look a little more answerable."

The mere fact that they had an in-home visit (if I recall the initial news, correctly)...when QB recruiting had been shut down since summer...tells me that Peterman just notified CBJ of his plans to transfer after the bowl game.

Think about the timing aspect. Peterman may have hoped he'd get more playing time by the end of the season, and Dobbs performance pretty much slammed the door on his hopes of ever starting.

Transferring now gives Peterman 2 yrs to play. I had hoped for better fortunes for Peterman, but he might be better off going to a program where he has a good chance to start and succeed.

How many re-tweets did you see posted by QBs who are not currently committed to UT since maybe mid June where they mentioned CBJ stopping by? How many times did you see it mentioned CBJ or another staff member went and visited a 2015 QB who is not currently committed to UT since maybe mid June? How many QBs did UT extend offers to in the 2015 class after QD chose Tennessee? Probably the same # that I saw. Zero on all accounts. You may not call it proof, but it's at least enough for me to go on. UT did not look at all to be actively recruiting 2015 QBs after QD committed. Maybe they were holding out for Torrance?

Also, if you have 2 QBs coming in, plus at least Dobbs on campus, you DO have (3) QBs competing.

Yes because they so actively pursued Gibson after Dormady committed.

If Peterman is transferring which is likely the case and if the staff has concerns about Dormady's current health then we would have two QBs for an SEC schedule next year, Dobbs and Jennings with no safety net after them. Don't tell me that you feel comfortable if that is the situation.

Does anyone know the rules on medical eval of a recruit? Can the team evaluate him if he is in for bowl practices but will not take part in them?

Dobbs starts. IF QD has an injury then JJ is the backup. TFR are back ups all the time. QD heals up and is your #3. Wegzyn is the emergency #4. It gets real crazy, into the WildPig we go. :eek:lol:

Sign Kendall and the instate kid in 2016, and roll with it. Does it really help to add a late 3rd guy when at least 1-2 of those guys won't be around next year anyway? I say focus on signing positions of need (maybe who is #2-5 on the OL instead of who is #4 or #5 at QB) and the QB situation will be fine.

We need the oline fixed but if we take 3. Hopefully redshirt 2. Then take Kendall and be done next year at qb. I like having guys in the system because 2016 is for sure the year we must make a serious run in the sec. Dobbs senior with two redshirt guys, a backup with mop up experience and Kendall. Of course without a line none of this matters.
