I cannot wait for this conversation to die. My lord, it isn't even August and were bickering whether or not a 5* "ATH" is a take.

I think TG enjoys the process, some kids like the spotlight. That also means he welcomes competition, and call me crazy but I like that. I like a kid willing to go out and fight for a spot.

We can speculate all we want, and the pay sites can do the same. If he's still taking to Coach Jones and we are still named his leader then what the hell is there to discuss and why does it matter? He will either sign with us or he won't, but IMO he's worth a spot -- regardless of whether or not y'all believe you know how many kids were taking. We had the same tired convo last year and Butch made the numbers work, just as I expect him to this time around.

I meant high and dry in the sense that IF CBJ would have held off on taking Dormady's commitment to wait for TG to commit. Earlier in the process Gibson was a highly wanted DT QB prospect viewed by most of VN. I just think there has been wayyy too much communication and "extended" visits between TG and Tenn to say that he isn't a valued and wanted prospect in our signing class.

"Holding off" on Dormady would have been a massive mistake. That guy is only so under the radar because he was injured. The guy is primed for a MASSIVE senior campaign.

As a side note, I am not saying this because I dislike TG. He is an awesome athlete. I'm just not sure, with the way he has handled his recruitment and some of the things he says publicly, that he fits CBJ's much talked about "recruiting profile".

We all want to believe that, and I hope he throws for 9,987 yards this upcoming season. However, you're taking a risk on how he may perform just like you're taking a risk on TG. There's risk evolved in every recruit, so why not take two potentially special players instead of one?

+1...Solid post but makes a little too much sense perhaps. Jmo :)

Yes, yes we can. As long as it is done in a respectful manner (which I suppose is debatable in some parts of this thread) there isn't anything wrong with it. To lots of the people here its an interesting pastime before the season gets rolling.

If you find yourself not enjoying the conversation you aren't required to participate. I say this under the assumption that there isn't some domestic terrorist with a gun to your head forcing you to post on the VN boards...

I don't think you're in any place to explain VolNation etiquette to me. If this debate were entertaining I would participate, but it's the same argument over and over hundreds of pages of "we want him, we don't have room for him, he's a drama queen, he's a good kid" and the occasional left field post from Butchna.

It is called cost/benefit analysis, and everyone does it every day. Individuals, large corporations, everyone. CBJ (and his staff) is responsible for that analysis, and they decided this course of action was best, at least for now. I suppose things could change before signing day. My own feelings after seeing every piece of film on Dormady I could find has me agreeing. Remember when you watch his film this is as a sophomore! A coaches' kid with a good, stable family.... who thinks enough of his future prospects to have his surgery done by Dr. James Andrews (yes, the same guy who does pretty much every major college/professional Tommy John or knee surgery)...

All I am saying is... I trust coach on this one.

I can't recall where I said otherwise? I agree with you and love that we have Dormandy. That's wasn't the point of my reply. My question was that if we have a chance to take two special players then why not?!?

Look at what TG did to opposing teams in a state that is basically a factory for NFL talent.
And he is fairly new to the position.

When we were completing for the SEC every year we had quality depth and many classes where we had multiple stars commit to the T at each position.

Because talent isn't the only qualification.

you want to keep throwing out the redneck term...Ill do the same later yankee

just saying thats a term i dont like. I find it offense against your fellow americans. bad war. let it go.

/end rant

Later Rednecks....That's a VN term of endearment dude. It's a long running joke. Pay attention to what's going on and you won't get your panties in a wad.

We have 2 in Jennings and Dormady. Now taking 3 QBs is where the problems start and IMO is why we won't see this staff do it.

I honestly don't think Jones knows exactly what's going to happen in regards to TG. I feel like he's still talking to him in case some other people fall through and there's a spot open before TG commits anywhere.

Essentially we're not taking 3 QB's. It is 1 true quarterback and 2 phenomenal athletes. At least one of the athletes is not going to stick and still has the potential to be All-SEC at another position.
It is a genius move if you think about it.

5 Question interview from the 4th of July.

Football: Fourth of July Edition: Torrance Gibson Talks Recruitment | Football.com

1. What is your favorite part of the recruiting process?
"Meeting new coaches and looking at all different campuses around the nation, along with meeting new people."

2. Who has been the coolest athletes/individuals that you have met on visits and/or camps?
"Josh Malone, Dillion Bates, & TK from Tennessee."

3. How excited are you to be participating in The Opening?
"I'm very excited and I'm bless to be given a opportunity to go against the best of the best and compete. I just want to finally show everyone that I am a quarterback and that I can play the position."

4. Why do Tennessee and Auburn stand out to you?
"Those are the two schools that showed the most love and stayed in touch with me the most."

5. In your own words, describe what Butch Jones and Gus Malzahn mean to you?
"They mean a lot and they're both hard working, successful coaches in their own way. I can't wait until this season to see what they can do with their talented football team."

Now you all can go back to bickering for no reason.

I think CBJ would still talk to him even if he had his mind made up to not take him (no matter the reason). I don't think people like RC on 247 would say things like he has without there being something going on.

There is nothing to gain by making stuff like that up. You certainly don't start saying UT doesn't want him as much to take away from getting him or something to make it sound like something bad is going on with him to make people doubt him and think CBJ signed someone with real problems. Plus it doesn't help get subscribers on 247.

I doubt it has anything to do with having a spot for him. He is the type of player (top talent and can play multiple positions) you make room for. If it was just about not having a spot for him right now then there would be no reason to say anything with so long to go until NSD. Spots could open any time with a decommitment before NSD.

Lol! Now, this is golden! From here on out in this thread, I think this is the way actual info about TG should be presented. That way those of us who quickly scan through the junk posts will know how to find pertinent info. Well done, POA! :hi: :salute:
