I don't profess to be a football guru on x's and o's but I have to believe JRM will still be a mainstay at the linebacker position for a while before someone unseats him. He spent a lot of time in the opponent's backfield this year and other than AJ had more tackles than anyone else. jmo
I don't care how it happened....this is a huge commitment for teams 119- 121.
This could be the difference in a 8 win season and actually contending, he's that good and he, Suttonand Moseley will be a great 3 man CB rotation next yr.
"Martin is one of those cant-miss junior college talents. His speed and acceleration are what make him special. The fact that he had four years to play three season only makes him more intriguing. As he adds strength he will get more physical. But, at least for now, his strengths are coverage downfield and ability to make plays on the ball."
At 6-2, 192 pounds, Martin has the size defensive back coaches dream of. He has the speed to go with it. His size and speed make him an elite prospect and he showed in his first year at Northeast Oklahoma A&M that he can be a shutdown corner.
Martin played running back in high school before making the switch in junior college and showed that he's a quick learner at the position as he was one of the top defensive backs in the country at the junior college level.
Martin seems to always be on the hip of the receiver he's covering and with his long arms and frame he's able to bat balls away easier than other, smaller corners. He also shows he has no trouble breaking on the ball and stepping up to make tackles.
Martin, although still fine-tuning things at the corner spot, has everything you want in a modern corner. Size, speed, ability to cover and willingness to come up and tackle.
Another player in the depth equation that people have forgotten about is Riyahd Jones. Coaches could have played him this year and let his eligibility expire, but chose to redshirt him. Looked promising and then had the blood clotting issue. Could have very solid depth next year.
