HOW DOES BUSSEY FIT IN?
With only one scholarship running back returning from the 2014 season to the 2015 season Tennessee is going to need as much running back help as it can get and landing Bussey is a nice compliment to what Tennessee is bring in in the class of 2015.
We saw every Tennessee back struggle with injuries throughout the season as Hurd, Marlin Lane, Devrin Young and the departed Derrell Scott all were banged up at some point during the season.
As a player, Bussey is certainly intriguing. At just 5-8, he's short but is thickly built weighing in at just under 200 pounds and provides a burst of speed with 10.6 100-meter times and seems to have a nice blend of speed and power.
Another aspect of Bussey's game that stands out is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He shows great ability in screen passes and swing passes out of the backfield and adds another dimension to his game.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR TENNESSEE?
After signing junior college running back Alvin Kamara earlier this week Tennessee knows it should have at least two scholarship running backs on the roster this spring. That number should grow by one more as Cincinnati transfer Ralph David Abernathy IV is set to be on campus in January.
But, as we saw this season, Tennessee needs more help and Bussey should provide some of that but the Vols will still be more.
As of now, the Vols still hold the commitment of Rocky Reid but he's likely to take visits to Georgia, Louisville and possibly Georgia Tech and that's a situation that's worth monitoring.
The Vols are still after North Carolina all-purpose back Bryce Love as well as running back John Kelly out of Michigan.
Love is seemingly down to Tennessee and Stanford with visits to both in January while Kelly seems to have narrowed his recruitment to Tennessee, Minnesota and Michigan State and will also visit in January.
SCOUTING REPORT ON BUSSEY
Now we turn to Southwest Recruiting Analyst Jason Howell for his take on Bussey:
"Kendall Bussey is not the biggest guy in terms of raw size, but he is a stout prospect. He is a solidly built running back who brings plenty of strength to the table. He runs with a low center of gravity and he is shifty and quick. He has the vision to see his seam and the burst to hit his top gear in a hurry.
"He uses that ability whether he is taking a handoff, catching the ball in space, or working in the return game. He is also a guy who has grown up around the game. He knows the game well and is he is the kind of athlete who can put it to good use early on in his playing days on the college level."
