Vols watching 2015 Michigan QB

Brother Rice (Mich.) 2015 QB Alex Malzone had a big game on Saturday against a nationally-ranked Cleveland St. Ignatius team. He camped at Tennessee this summer, has some connections to the state, and says the Volunteers are one of the teams recruiting him hardest at this time.

His mom is from Jefferson County just outside of Knoxville. Our families are friends. I don't see him becoming a Vol. I remember them being diehard Michigan fans. I see him going somewhere in the Big 10 if/when he receives an offer, but you never know. He's definitely an impressive player.

Talked to a family member a few days ago. He is definitely interested in UT. Prolly end up a Michigan school but he is looking.

Interesting prospect. Not sure what kind of competition he plays against there in Michigan (I take it Jones would know), but the kid has an absolute gun of an arm and his delivery is downright Bray-esque.

That kid has a laser for an arm. I'm VERY impressed with the velocity and accuracy in this film. He seems to know when to throw the fastball or give it some touch.

I see several unofficial visits to UM and Mich State with no offer. If either of those schools extend an offer, I bet he jumps at it. JMO

I'm not that familiar with Michigan football, but I believe their competition is decent. I do know that his team finished nationally ranked and have won back-to-back-to-back state titles. Brother Rice looks to be a football powerhouse.

I agree.

I live about 15 minutes from Brother Rice HS....may have to throw on some big orange gear and hit up some of his games... do some of my own recruiting! I really should start doing that here..especially schools like Cass Tech, Farmington Hills Harrison, Southfield, etc. You think the players would take notice? It couldn't hurt to hit up these players' games pounding UT in their heads and representin! lol

Brother Rice (Mich.) quarterback Alex Malzone used a week's vacation to visit family in Tennessee as an opportunity to check out three schools recruiting him. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Malzone began with a visit to Tennessee on Tuesday, then traveled to see N.C. State and Wake Forest on Wednesday. The visit to Wake Forest yielded Malzone's first BCS offer and eighth offer overall.

"I have gotten to know Coach [Warren] Ruggiero for about a year now because they came from Bowling Green," Malzone said. "I met Coach [Dave] Clawson [Wednesday] and they are a great staff, seems like they know what they are doing. They've had a winning program everywhere they've been and they definitely showed me what Wake Forest is all about."

"Their facilities were very nice. I didn't see the campus, just the facilities and football field. They have a great tradition with their program and have sent a lot of players to the NFL. They have had a lot of great quarterbacks coming out of there - Russell Wilson and Phillip Rivers."

The visit to Tennessee on Tuesday went similar to the visit to N.C. State, with a promise to come out and see Malzone this spring. "Coach [Mike] Bajakian, their quarterbacks coach, I got to sit down with him," Malzone said. "He said he watched my film and was very impressed. He said he was going to watch my single games and be up in the spring to see me throw."

Malzone said he wants to make a decision soon, before summer. He had a lot of good things to say about Wake Forest (campus blew him away, IVY league type education, top 5 business school, etc), based on that and his early decision time frame I'm guessing he's going to commit to Wake Forest soon unless a school like Mich State, Michigan, UT, PSU, etc offer before then.

according to his 247 timeline he was at ut yesterday.

“i went to (tennessee’s) camp last summer, and i’ve talked to them — not constantly, but off and on — since then. I had talked to (defensive line) coach (steve) stripling about it, and he said, ‘yeah, definitely come by,’”

“my mom and i, we sat down with coach bajakian, talked to him for about 10, 15 minutes. He said after their camp season, after i came to their camp, he didn’t know if it’d be the right fit. And then he said he was very impressed by my film from this past year.”

“obviously, they play in a big-time conference, the sec,” he said. “if i went there, i’d be playing some big-time football. It’s a football town. I mean, i hear a lot about it from my mom’s side of the family. A lot of people down here always tell me how much knoxville and tennessee cares about their football. And even coach bajakian said tennessee football, i mean, the face of the program is the quarterback. Going to tennessee would be pretty cool to do.”

“i’m just really trying to make my decision as soon as possible,” he said. “the recruiting process is starting to become a lot.”

Finished in the top 5 at the Elite 11 in Atlanta. Congrats to him. Looks like he's potentially headed to Wake Forrest. Would like to see him get an offer from Michigan St.

RCS Detroit: Offense

5. QB Alex Malzone
Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice

Malzone came into the camp as one of the most recognizable players and he really lived up to the hype. The most noticeable thing about him was his rifle arm. The ball really pops off his hand and gets to his target in a hurry. Malzone's good footwork helped him throw a very accurate ball. He was able to hit most of his receivers in stride throughout the day.
