This is one we are going to want! Just came up for a visit with some other top Memphis recruits. Kid is quick, just the type Butch seems to like. Follow him on twitter @JohnathonJohns4! He hasn't gotten all the attention yet on twitter! He needs it!

“My coach told me to call Coach Elder, and Coach Elder let me talk to Butch Jones,” said Johnson, who also holds early offers from Ole Miss and Indiana. “(Jones) said that I’d fit their offense very good, and he said they were going to offer me. I was excited. I really didn’t have any idea (the offer was coming).

“I was hoping I would get an offer from them, just because they’re the home state. I like them because they’re the home state, and they’re not too far from me.”

“It’s a great program. I think I’d fit their offense very good,” Johnson said. “Their campus impressed me most (during the visits), because it’s not too far getting from class to class, and they’ve got the facility for the academics and stuff like that by the football office.”
“I’m going to check out one of their games this year,” Johnson said, “and I’m going to try to get back up there this summer.”

For now, though, he’s in no hurry to make a decision on where he wants to play in college.

“I plan on waiting until my senior season,” he said.

He plans to visit tOSU on July 26th. That is his only other planned visit for this summer at this point. Miss. St. and Vandy are expressing interest.

JOHNATHAN JOHNSON WR, 5-8/170, MEMPHIS, TENN.
VISIT RECAP: Johnson has been a familiar face around Knoxville this spring and summer as the upcoming junior prospect has visited three times since the spring, including twice in the past few weeks alone. At camp, as he has at other places around the country, Johnson was one of the top athletes on hand working out receiver. After the camp, on Tuesday, he was offered by Tennessee for his third offer.

QUOTABLE: "It was exciting. My coach told me to call coach (Mark) Elder and I talked to coach (Butch) Jones and he told me he liked my film and he appreciated me coming to the camp and showing what I had to offer and then he offered me. It was exciting. They have great coaches and they coach well and they have a good relationship with their players and I really like that and I really like it's close to home. It was a huge offer for me."

For the third time this summer Memphis wide receiver Johnathan Johnson was on Tennessee's campus visiting for Foundation Day last Sunday.

"It was good. It was great getting back out there. We had a really good time and went to the practice facility playing games and went to the golf facility," Johnson said.

"It was fun to get to hang out with the 2014 class. I hung out with Drew Richmond. We talked about Tennessee and what it would be like to go there," Johnson said.

"It always feels like home up there at Tennessee and the coaches are fun and cool guys that I have good relationships with," Johnson said.

“It was a great day,” “I hung out with some recruits that were there. We had fun.”

“I feel very familiar with Tennessee,” he said. “I feel very at home down there. Every time I visit, the visits get better and better.

“I just love the coaches, the relationships they have with the players and the recruits coming in, and the way they talk to us and try to get us to visit Tennessee and just tell us a lot about Tennessee.”

“I just know I’m definitely going to wait another year,” he said.

He was at Foundation Day, and he talked with Jalen Hurd a lot about what the '14 recruits liked about UT. He talked with Elder, his lead recruiter, and he was told that he would play slot WR and get a look at kick/punt returning for UT. Last, he plans to visit for the UGA game, and again, that is going to be a HUGE recruiting weekend.

He has a great burst of speed. Kid can move. Hopefully we can lock him up.

Is he a sure take at this point at WR? Woods is apparently being recruited as a slot WR and is similar in size. If the staff plans on taking Patrick out of Juco, I only think we take 1 more WR at the most for the 2015 class.

I thought we got Woods as a DB

SKILL ASSESSMENT: Speed, and quickness, that's where Johnson excels. Yes, he's small, but he more than makes up in that with his speed and quickness in the open field. He won the overall skill MVP at the Birmingham Rivals camp in the summer that also included several 2014 four-star players.

STATUS WITH VOLS: Johnson was a familiar face on Tennessee's campus this summer visiting three times. While he's publicly not given any indication of a top team, Tennessee has put itself in a very enviable position.

OTHERS INVOLVED: Ole Miss, Alabama, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt

Wish he was this years class. Having two Jonathan Johnson's on the field would be bad ass

The 5-foot-8, 175-pound slot receiver keeps in contact with coach Mark Elder and plans on making a return camp visit to Tennessee this summer.

"Coach Elder, that's a good coach. He's been telling me that they're really waiting to see what I'm going to do and that I would fit perfectly in their offense and they are just waiting to see what's going to happen," Johnson said.

Johnson believes he would be a good fit in Tennessee's offense because the of how the Vols use the slot position. "That's something I look at a lot because I'm a slot guy. I look at it a lot to see how I would play in their offense and that's on of the factors I look at and I like," Johnson said.

Louisville is the most recent team to offer Johnson and he plans to visit there this summer along with Ole Miss, florida, Florida State and Kentucky.

If Woods can't get his issues worked out, maybe JJ would be a quality instate option to take. I like it.

Maybe Cottrell's HS coach uses him a bit more in the slot this year. Might be another quality option if he shows he can catch the ball on a consistent basis.
