'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

From Rivals:

One of the prospects that has Bulldogs fans nervous is Georgia wide receiver commit Van Jefferson. He gave Woody Womack the latest on his commitment status to the Bulldogs.

"You know, I am still committed to the University of Georgia," Jefferson said. "Coach Richt and Coach [Tony] Ball, and Coach Bobo and those guys, I am still fully committed. My dad wants me to take some visits just to see around and see what's going on so I think I am going to take that into consideration and see what he wants me to do."

Florida is the new name that has come up with Jefferson. "They are still recruiting me," Jefferson replied. "I was born and raised in Florida right there in Jacksonville so I have some ties there and you know that my hometown and my home state. They are still recruiting me, Coach Chris Leak, I still talk to them and things like that so there still there."

With Florida entering the picture, Jefferson could visit the Gators when he visits his family in Jacksonville.
"I might, I think I am going to go down there and visit some family so while I'm down there I think I might just go over there and see it for one more time," Jefferson said. The coaching search in Gainesville (FL) is being monitored closely by the Jefferson family.
"We are watching it closely," Jefferson responded. "Me and my dad are watching it. ... Were still keeping an eye on it to see who they are going to pick and I know they will make the right decision."

Tennessee is also giving Jefferson and his family something to think hard about. "You know, it's in-state. All the fans would love to see me play there," Jefferson added. "I am always going to have that thing for Tennessee because it's right here in-state."

Pretty sure we wouldn't deny PW nor Jefferson an EE spot here if they wanted it. If Jefferson's EE spot was in jeopardy at UGA, and he wanted to EE, he would be taking visits now instead of Jan.

More than likely he just doesn't have the credits to finish HS early.

I thought someone said time constraints is why he is not taking visits now and will in Jan.

Could it not be his choice? Maybe UGA can't allow he and PW(if he is in play) to be EEs. Just a possibility.

IF your scenario had any validity, then I'd suspect he'd be finding time to take visits this month.

Look at it this way, would you let one school going back on their word to let you EE, stop you from being an EE?

Depends on the situation I suppose. Booth was going to be an EE to UT. Malone took that EE spot. I don't think Booth ended up being an EE at IU.

That would be a pretty DA move on UGA's part. Lose Jefferson for the outside shot in hades of landing Williams? Yeah I can't see that as being realistic.

I think it's more Jefferson is having some doubts on going to UGA and wants to make sure.

It may be just an outside shot. I do find it interesting that Jefferson is no longer an EE the day after PW visits UGA. JMO

When is EE date? I was thinking its in January and if so then he could visit the first week or so but I don't know exact date

“the plan right now is to go to tennessee, and then to go to ole miss and probably hit up ohio state, and then just finalize everything and just get it going,”

“i have to do it before the dead period. (some visits will) have to be during midweek. If i can’t hit three, i’ll hit two out of those schools. With my dad, we’ve got to figure it out and see which ones (i visit). It’ll have to be next week when i’m off and free and stuff like that. I’ll probably go to tennessee first because that’s the closest one, and it’s easier on my parents and things like that.”

“coach (butch) jones told me i can come in and start, perform and play right next to josh (malone) and preston (williams),” jefferson said. “that would be great, and i know we would do some amazing things if i came in with me, josh and preston. I don’t have any doubt in that, and josh is a close friend and we talk on a regular basis. Playing with him would be cool.

“coach ‘z’ (wide receivers coach zach azzanni) and coach jones, those are my guys, and i know they’re going to treat me well. They know what’s best for me, if i went there, and things like that. I haven’t been there for a game yet. I won’t be able to do that, but i still want to see it and get down there.”

“i’m just going into the visits seeing what’s out there,” jefferson said. “i’m still solid on georgia. My dad just wants me to take some and see what’s out there, so i’m going to listen to his advice and see what he thinks and see what i think about all these schools i’m going to see.”

Meh...sounds more like courtesy visits to appease his dad, who doesn't seem comfortable with UGA. I still think he ends up in Athens, but I'd like to be wrong.

This. He wants GA. And we didn't exactly give him any reason to believe he could thrive in this offense.

Our offensive struggles probably cost us a recruit or two. We'll never know for sure. A lot of these kids don't have strong allegiances with a school. They're looking for a way to get in 'the league'.

How does going to UGA inspire any confidence for a WR they will be prepared for the League there?

Dude will add depth and be a starter 2016 if he comes in. Having a dad as a WR coach in the NFL helps. Also it sounds like that where his dad wants him to go

This could be a case of staying up all night and studying for finals talking but with how bad the Titans are would it be possible to offer his dad a coaching position with our staff, maybe not this year because I'm sure they will give wisenhunt( spelling) at least one more year but I wouldnimagine that's it. I'm sure he makes a lot more money in the nfl but I bet he would like to coach his son.

Come in and start?

Malone has seen plenty of action this season for a freshman. I doubt Jefferson would start but I think he would see plenty of action at WR if he wanted to sign here. I'm just not blown away by what we have at WR right now. I see no reason why this kid can't immediately compete for significant PT.

Georgia has a recent history of offensive success with an established coach. Remember, most of these kids don't care what happened more than 5 years ago. Butch has a two year history with our program and the results on offense have been less than inspiring.

I was hopeful this would be a breakout year for a couple of receivers and a running back. Recruits can look at that and see themselves taking a similar path. As it is, all we can say "You'll be the difference maker next year".

Yea, but there's a difference between playing and starting. This kid isn't starting over Smith/VP, PIG, and North. That's not a knock on him either, but rather the reality of the situation. P. Will., arguably the best freshman WR in the country, isn't starting either. That's how it should be when you recruit top WRs year in and year out. Van would provide more quality depth though.

X: Von/Smith/Malone/Van
Z: North/Croom/Malone/P.Will
Y: PIG/Johnson/Vic/Jenkins

That's pretty good depth at WR, especially if Malone/Croom/Vic/Jenkins continue to grow and Smith/North get 100% healthy.
