'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

It appears Dormady is lengths above the current QB talent now on our squad. If Ferguson had stayed, the battle for The spot in 2015 would have been interesting. I look forward to the future.

Why does it seem that way? I mean his camp performances seem promising so far, but he hasn't played real football since his sophomore year.

I hope you're right, and I have a good feeling about him too, but I think it's too early to say that he is lengths above what we have.

Don't see how you can tell Dormady is miles better than anyone we have right now. all you have to go on is his soph year. I think Dobbs is putting the work to really break out Dormady and JJ are for down the road. I can live without Gibson and his BS.

^Beat me to it.

Its the Volnation way. Same thing happened with Ferg.

As much as I love the coaches getting Dormady, I would be shocked if Dobbs is not the clear starter headed into 2015. I doubt it's even up for debate following the O&W game next year. I think both QD and JJ will have their moments, but I just don't see either TFR stepping on campus and taking the job from Dobbs headed into his 3rd year in the system. Peterman would have 4 years under his belt as well and headed into his 3rd year in CBJ's system.

Dobbs
Peterman
Dormady
Jennings

IMO.

I respect your posts LV, you are very good...but just dead wrong on this. Dormady should be the starter unless our staff has evaluated him incorrectly.

What? Why would you say that? How does a junior who the staff recruited not have the upper hand on an incoming true freshman? If anything, it means our staff evaluated Dobbs horribly if Dormady replaces him as a true freshman, not the other way around.

You do realize the same staff evaluated and signed Dobbs right? He was a TFR last year who was 4th on the depth chart when he was tossed to the wolves. He will be just fine IMO. Like any TFR, he needs a little more time to get a grasp of everything that goes into playing big time college football. Especially in the SEC.

"This QB who hasn't even played his senior season should come in and start as a freshman over a (potentially) incumbent starter. If this true freshman doesn't take over and face the gauntlet of an sec schedule ASAP, our staff just totally missed that evaluation."

You act like Butch didn't come in and target / recruit Dobbs like hell from the jump. Dobbs isn't an afterthought. Gimme a break.

I don't want to disparage Dobbs (or any Vol for that matter) but come on, if he is our QB we are in trouble.

Yeah, no way he improved.

Why do we even pay attention to a guy's career at Tennessee after his freshman season? All some need to see before deciding on what he will become.

Okay, fair enough. Were you impressed with his arm strength though?

I mean, I'm not sold that Dobbs is amazing yet, but he showed flashes as a true freshman and has given reason for optimism so far this Spring.

I'm sorry but the good to great Vol QB's in the last 25 years did show it right away and that was often as a freshman or 2nd year sophomore - Heath Shuler '92, Peyton Manning '94, Casey Clausen '00, Erik Ainge '04... the reality is that good QB's demonstrate their abilities right away and we are left waiting for the Jonathan Crompton's of the world to prove themselves while we make excuses for them. I think Dobbs looks like a Crompton. Sorry.

IMO if Dobbs starts in '15 it'll be 2016 before we start to improve. It just seems like with QB's either they got it or they don't.
I would love for Dormady to come in and show promise and take the job for 3-4 years.
I also think there's a pretty good chance of it happening with him being an EE and a Coach's son.
I disagree. QB's can definitely develop. Crompton played tons better his senior year. QB is like any other position in that respect.
