'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

IMO if Dobbs starts in '15 it'll be 2016 before we start to improve. It just seems like with QB's either they got it or they don't.
I would love for Dormady to come in and show promise and take the job for 3-4 years.
I also think there's a pretty good chance of it happening with him being an EE and a Coach's son.

DOBBS WAS A TRUE FRESHMAN... IN THE SEC...

Do you even watch the games?

It seems like with VN posters either they got it or they don't.

Jonathon Crompton says 'no'.

BTW have you seen Dobbs lately? Dude is a beast, works hard, and will most assuredly improve...a lot.

Dobbs looked really good in the spring game. I know it's a glorified pratice, but he looked better. He actually had some touch on the deep ball. I'll be shocked if he is not the starter this year.

I'm sorry but the good to great Vol QB's in the last 25 years did show it right away and that was often as a freshman or 2nd year sophomore - Heath Shuler '92, Peyton Manning '94, Casey Clausen '00, Erik Ainge '04... the reality is that good QB's demonstrate their abilities right away and we are left waiting for the Jonathan Crompton's of the world to prove themselves while we make excuses for them. I think Dobbs looks like a Crompton. Sorry.

You're way off here. He may or may not make big strides, but there is absolutely no basis for writing him off after what we saw last season. There's no possible argument you can make to support it that makes any sense.

I disagree. QB's can definitely develop. Crompton played tons better his senior year. QB is like any other position in that respect.

That was because of coaching not so much development.

Typically the biggest improvement is after a redshirt year to grow physically and mentally.

I have hope for Dobbs, I'm expecting him to win the starting job over Worley this fall. He already has significant game experience as a true freshman which many QBs don't have.

If Worley wins out, then I would have to question if Dobbs would ever be the QB we all want him to be and In order for UT to return to the top of the SEC.

As much as I liked Manning, Clausen , and Ainge , you can't dismiss one year starter Tee Martin . Did pretty well for our program

Worley will be much better. He was new in the system last year and had a pretty weak WR corps to throw to. More targets this year and far more familiar with the system. I honestly don't think Dobbs will start and it isn't a reflection on him.

Name 3 true freshman studs in the last 10 years. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Edit: SEC true freshmen.

I agree that Worley will improve in terms of comfort with the offense. Arm strength and accuracy, not so much. This is where Dobbs comes in.

If Worley starts and has better stats, it's going to be indicative of how much better out WRs and RBs are, not Worley.

Crompton showed it right away against LSU as a Freshman.

Tee was already a good one. He would have started at almost any other BCS program for 3 years.

He just had one of the best QBs in history starting in front of him.

I am not sure you have analyzed that correctly. The difference is that all of those QB's that you mentioned had skilled playmakers around them. Ainge will admit that he was decent his freshman year because he had veteran WR's who knew what they were doing. Dobbs gets thrown in mid-year, in a new offensive scheme, trying to throw to a true freshman WR, a RS freshman WR, another true freshman WR, a sophomore slot WR (who had been hurt), and weak TE's. In addition, we haven't had a dynamic RB in several years. I am not saying Dobbs will be an elite QB, but you just can't make that blanket statement. You have to break things down and understand why things happen because it isn't an apples to apples comparison.

:good!: Well done.

Give Dobbs some credit. It was the first year of a new system and he was a true freshman in the SEC. He led our team to more points scored against Bama at home in Tuscaloosa than any other team had at the time. That says something.

Umm...Amari Cooper, Vernon Hargreaves, Todd Gurley, Isaiah Crowell, Clowney, Marcus Lattimore, Aaron Murray....

All made Freshman All American teams. And I could keep going..

And going...and going...and going. Not sure what he was getting at because there are true freshman studs in the SEC year in and year out...

I felt bad for Josh Dobbs. Being #4 on the depth chart, there's no way he would have thought that he would have played his first year.

And I agree, that the first year in any system is rough. Luckily and hopefully, it will be the only system he knows while here.

I think there's potential there. He's bulked up a bit, and put in a lot of work. Definitely improved his arm strength. I don't know. Worley should be the guy come August 31st. But I think if or when Dobbs gets another chance, he'll be much more ready than he was last year. Last year was a freak show of a season. 3 QBs going down in one season, I wonder when the last time that happened was.
