Merritt seems like he needs a year of JUCO football to see where he stands competitively and how he grades out. The 24/7 report from Maryland was a little vague but mentioned he got beat out last Summer by Junior, Sean Christie. That isn't earth shattering for a RS Sophomore to get beat, but they mentioned he struggled with conditioning. People go through any number of circumstances in wanting a transfer, but that kind of throws up a red flag. He looks mean and talented on his Hudl video, but I noticed he's always playing OT. He was projected as a OG in college, but he went from 310 to 345 entering Maryland, to 365 on Maryland's 2017 depth chart. Sure, you want a bulldozer inside but maybe that is too much weight for him to be successful. Perhaps he can get his conditioning in order, have a great season at AWC this Fall, and have a much better second attempt at an FCS school next year.
