'16 FL CB Tyler Byrd (UT Commit 2/2/16)

ESPN has him as the #1 athlete in the country (ahead of Mecole Hardman) and the #35 overall player. I think that ranking is fair.

I also agree with you that Byrd could end up the best player in this class. After watching his highlights, he reminds me of Dez Bryant on offense and Jalen Ramsey on defense.

Special talent.

He reminds me more of a Darrelle Revis/Jerry Rice mixture with a dash of Barry Sanders thrown in.

Shoe in hall of famer IMO

Of all the guys we are likely to land in the 2016, I think Byrd has the most immediate impact.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him lock up the starting spot at slot receiver.

He also looks like a special teams demon given his hs film.

High praise. Hope you're right.

Look I didn't just throw those names out. His body type, long arms, and physical style reminded me of Jalen Ramsey when he plays CB. When he was at WR, his running gait and ability to make contested catches on jump balls reminded me of Dez Bryant.

Not saying he'll have the impact Or NFL careers of those guys. Just saying that's who he resembles IMO when I watch his film.

If you want more of my comparisons for our potential recruits, here it is:

Jarrett Guarantano = Colin Kaepernick
Derrick Brown = Nick Fairley
Jonathan Kongbo = taller Carl Lawson
Tyler Byrd = Dez Bryant/Jalen Ramsey

Non-Tennessee recruits:
Rashan Gary = Warren Sapp
BJ Emmons = Ezekiel Elliot

That's who each of these guys remind me of after watching their tape.

Well I hope you get to watch him play A LOT of football for the big orange.

I can easily see Shoop rotating Byrd in regularly with Sutton, and Osborne with Gaulden in the nickle. It is going to be awesome to finally have elite level depth across the entire defense.

Maybe Byrd and Osborne can combine with Gaulden to form the STAR.

I don't know about this rotating your best CB out. Maybe they'll be groomed to replace the starters next year. If Justin Martin has a good year he's gone along with Sutton and Foreman. To tell the truth I see Osborne and Byrd getting late game action and involved heavily on ST units. We've got experienced talent and don't need these guys to make an impact honestly.

Agreed, the days of relying on Freshmen to make an immediate impact are over. Earn your stripes on ST's and mop up duty then let them shine as Sop's & Jr's.

Goodness gracious. Alabama and Clemson met for the national title and had true freshmen starting for them and making big plays. Just look at their 2 starting lineups.

Calvin Ridley and Minkah Fitzpatrick started at WR and nickel respectively for Alabama. Darron Payne was the backup at DT to Jarran Reed and Ronnie Harrison was the backup to Eddie Jackson and got tons of quality snaps (even breaking up a potential TD in the game).

As for Clemson DT Christian Wilkins and WR Deon Cain started most of the year. With WR Ray Ray McCloud getting lots of snaps before he got hurt.

If you recruit elite players year in and year out like we're doing right now, some freshmen will be good enough to start immediately.

Would you say A LOT of tape?

I'm joking. But not really. I don't even know what shape a football is but I wouldn't make the Lawson and Sapp comparisons.

Otherwise, Byrd reminds me of a younger Pernell Whittaker, Brown could double as Evil Knievel and Emmons is the spitting image of Rough Rider era Teddy Roosevelt.

But I may be doing this wrong.

He said gone were the days of RELYING on freshmen.....there's a difference. Also FWIW, Calvin Ridley is actually older than Joshua Dobbs.

So between the two NC teams, there were maybe 7 freshmen that played? So, neither team was relying on freshmen to make an impact?

Cool thanks that was the point.

I think you misread what I said. Bama and Clemson didn't sign those guys NEEDING them to be impact players as Freshmen. We are now at the point were we do not NEED or have to RELY on Freshmen to make an immediate impact. I do agree with you that we will have Freshmen make an impact early because of the quality of guys we have coming in, but only because they are that good, not of lack of depth.

It's ok to compare but don't just pull names out of the air.
Rashan Gary 6'5"
Warren Sapp 6'2"

At least get the same size people together
