elberton, ga. -- u.s. Army all-american mecole hardman jr. (elberton, ga./elbert county) is now on the fence of whether he intends on making a silent commitment in the next month or two.
"i put it 50/50 chance on it right now," hardman said. "this part of my decision, i think 50 percent of it, i think i kind of like certain schools, or this school. Then there is 50 percent of it that is other schools coming on hard. I just don't want to commit to a school then another school coming in that i like and i end up switching. When i commit, i want to be solid and keep my word the whole way.
Hardman - considered the no. 1 athlete in the 2016 class by the 247sports composite - admitted during the video interview that he did have a school standing out.
"i do...because of the relationship there i have with the coaches at that school," hardman said.
The in-state bulldogs are fighting to get back on track after a disappointing loss to florida.
"i love georgia," hardman said. "they are trying to just hold on. They have a pretty decent team. I think the injury to nick chubb hurt real bad - when a playmaker like that goes down, your team kind of falls down too."
as far as his major is concerned, the bulldogs stand out among their peers.
"i want to major in sports broadcasting, and i know georgia has one of the best journalism programs in the nation," hardman said off-camera. "that definitely helps. I think other schools like tennessee, alabama, ole miss or other schools have good things too - but as far as the best journalism program - i think georgia has that."
a former georgia standout has caught the eye of the 5-foot-10, 175-pound top 100 prospect.
"i think it is great - look at david pollack - one of my favorite announcers," hardman said. "i like the way he does and then you see he came from georgia. I think they can help me in the field that i want to be in more than other programs because they are one of the top in the nation."
hardman says he spoke to fellow u.s. Army all-american selection jacob eason on thursday.
"me and jacob speak to every now and then," hardman said. "we spoke recently and we keep a good relationship and check up on each other."
georgia defensive coordinator jeremy pruitt is hoping to line hardman up in his secondary next fall.
"coach pruitt...that is a beast," hardman said. "he is a dog. I like him because he is a coach that gives it to you how it is. He does not sugarcoat anything, he gives it to you straight. That is what you expect out of a coach. You cannot do anything but respect that."
hardman gave his reason of why he would not announce for georgia on signing day:
"better opportunity of winning a national championship or depth wise or just as in i did not feel comfortable there, i felt comfortable somewhere else," hardman said.
And followed up with why he would choose the bulldogs.
"probably the factor of being close to home," hardman said. "my family can come see me play - that is probably one of the biggest reasons why i would go. Just the relationships i have with the coaches - i feel comfortable being around there and i have been there plenty of times."
