They can still finish 9-3. I think anything below 8-4 will result in a new coach. Richt picked a good year to suck it up. I'm only 21, but I can't remember so many coaching jobs at quality schools coming open in one season. Idk if UGA would get their first pick at coach.

Eh, I'd say UGA immediately becomes a top 2 job opening, maybe 1A to So.Cal. Recruiting goldmine. You get a good X's & O's coach in there, he should have little trouble succeeding.

When he's not playing the Vols, of course. :)

It should be an easy job, but as a Georgia fan told me the other day, "It took a once in a lifetime player for us to win a national championship. " Something is wrong there when all the schools around you have won a championship in the last 20 years and you have nothing. Clemson, which is about 70 miles away, may win one this year.

Don't count on Pruitt being there. Or Schottenheimer for that matter.

Wasn't going to post this since it was hearsay, but to piggy back off of that article a poster in the VQ shared a recent interview with former UGA alum and NFL Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton on a local radio show. Enjoy:

I realize that many of you don't probably know who he is, but he is an extremely successful and involved UGA alum, former athlete, etc; pretty sizable donor.... Google him. He is famous...

He gets on the radio once a week in Atlanta and discusses UGA athletics.

Today....Wouldn't say whether or not Richt should get fired, or whether or not he knows what will happen to Richt, but he did say the following, which is actually more fun for us Vol Fans (who want Richt to somehow stay, but 2016 recruiting to suffer)

Right now the football coaching staff is a total mess, and has a very, very poor working relationship. He knows this for a fact. His words. Says the building is toxic. Says these aren't simply good people frustrated by losing. It's far deeper. Not just ab this season going badly...

Says that Richt has been totally blindsided by the new OC Schattenheimer and Rob Sale (OL). Said that they were a major mistake. Said that on defense Pruitt is flat out "un-liked" and "boisterous" among the athletic administration and that people resent Richt for letting him come in and bring all the Alabama people into the program...basically called Pruitt a jerk (Buck Belue said same thing Monday). Said that Pruitt will never be a head coach anywhere. Said he hoped he wouldn't be at UGA next year.

Best part was his characterization that several assistants were involved in a lot of "unsavory" things (again, his words) and that it was ruining their program. Said everybody knew it, knew about it, but that he couldn't discuss particulars on radio. Wonder if this is how recruiting has shot up????? Note that all of the defensive coaches are new to the program over the last 18 months.

Now...this isn't some fool like Swain or Basillio getting on the local radio and running their mouths about things that MIGHT be true for ratings-because they need to pay a mortgage. This is a Pro Football Hall of Famer who gives enough to the university to get stuff named after himself. He is very well connected over there, and very well respected in Atlanta and he doesn't just talk to talk... and even he still made it sound like the whole thing is about to totally fall apart.

My take on his comments were that Richt's only way to keep his job would be to replace about 6 assistant coaches, including both coordinators. And I don't know if that is even logistically possible with all that is going on this off season. Who wants to work for a lame duck coach? But it would be awesome if they somehow let him try...

They will hire Smart, and he will keep the defensive recruits for sure. My hope is that the new offensive coordinator can't close with some RB's and WR's. It would be best if Bama beats LSU on Saturday so they remain in the national title hunt and Saban keeps his little minion slaving away and away from Athens until ab 1/10/2016.

Never heard a prominent booster accuse his own schools' coaches of cheating in public before. Just happened here.

The Richt issue is a hard one for me. As a Vols fan, I know what it is like to fire a legend and then wander the hinterlands for the better part of a decade afterward because your ADs bungled the replacement hires. I also know what getting the right coach gets you: championships (Saban at LSU and Bama and Meyer at UF and OSU and probably Harbaugh at UM). I also know that UGA and UT are rarely good simultaneously because we share the same recruiting areas. All in all, I obviously want UT to succeed and UGA to falter (although the rivalry is more fun when both teams are good). But, a new hire at UGA is fraught with risk for UT and UGA. If UGA gets the right guy, it will make it more difficult for UT. If UGA gets the wrong guy or guys, then it opens the door wide open for UT and UF in the East. All in all, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know and this applies to UT and UGA with equal weight here.

Wow! That much coaching turnover would be Dooleyesque 2012.

Yeah I used to feel that way. But after the last 15 years or so, I think it would be nice for them to have their own Lane Kiffin/Derek Dooley period of futility during which we dominate the rivalry and cherry pick the state of Georgia in recruiting.

Exactly. It isn't "scared" to hope one of your 3 biggest rivals makes a bad hire, one on the scale of Tennessee inking Dooley, rather than bringing in a really good coach who can significantly improve their program. What kind of fan says "yeah, I hope they make I great hire, gets the program turned around, really kicks ass in recruiting...."? Lol. That's ridiculous. For example, I look much more fondly back at the days when Florida had Ron Zook as their headcoach than I do at the Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer eras.

By the way, where are all of the UGA fans around here that claim they hang out on Volnation due to the website's 'superior format'? I guess they were just trolls after all.

Richt may be out at GA soon... Boom

That's not a good thing. Hopefully they just re-tool the staff... again... and keep Richt.

ANYONE can recruit to UGA. They have a solid in state base of talented players who are also homers influenced by adult homers.

If they get rid of Richt then they might stumble on someone who can coach and run a disciplined program.

Heard down here on the radio that if Richt goes they can probably kiss Eason goodbye. Pretty much said Eason doesn't even consider Georgia if Richt isn't there. If their top recruit starts shopping around.....lots of dominoes.

Richt probably isn't going. He will talk about playing too many young players then the AD will sacrifice assistants to appease donors... who mostly still like Richt. That sounds like the gist of Fran the Man's comments.

Sounds a little familiar.

That's the best possible outcome IMO. Let UGA hang onto Richt for another 2-3 seasons as he continues firing assistants and losing recruits. Eventually UGA is forced to let him go and the program has sunk so low that they have to hire their 3rd or 4th choice.

This. I imagine Shott is as good as gone, although if UGA were to lose to UK this Saturday...well, I'm not sure Richt could survive that on top of the azz-whoopings McIlwein and Saban put on him, plus blowing a 21-pt lead to UT.
