'16 GA DT Derrick Brown

Danielson is an idiot but he did say JRM was perhaps the best pure football player on the field during the Florida UT game. Verne has zero redeemable qualities whatsoever.

JRM had better stats than some of the other guys that got ranked as AA. That was complete BS. He was just as good if not better than Ragland this year.

Warrior and Brown for a slot receiver...

Sometimes I feel like you've said all the ridiculous things a person can say, and then you go and completely redeem yourself by opening up a whole new realm of ridiculousness

Just for discussion...we have a top notch rotation of DT's on campus. We have a void at slot, the position that absolutely thrives (or has in the past) in this offense. We have a DT with good potential and a safety legacy on deck, that in my opinion, would not beat out Evan and TKJ. Hardman can be a plug and play bigtime game changer NEXT YEAR by all accounts...what would you do?? KM and ST will be here for at least 2 more years. Strike while the iron is hot...we are on the doorstep of greatness. Hardman would make more of an impact on the team in the SHORT term. Warrior and Brown would absolutely grow in to monsters on D later. What would you take? Honest without swayed answers toward another poster. Keep it civil and honest.

Normally you might be right but looking at our offense tells a different story. We seem to be a primarily run based offense. The passing game is not that dynamic. Its not a bad passing game, just not really that explosive. Now slot WRs are great to have dont get me wrong. However, great DL rotation is more important. Alabama is the perfect example. Their DL rotation is on an elite level. Thats how they can shut down offenses.

Brown is an elite DT that will likely start day 1 for whatever team he signs with. Also, think about how frequently ZA rotates WRs. I cannot see a scenario where Hardman is a take before Brown. How many times has it been said that games are won in the trenches? Especially in the SEC. The more elite your DL is, the better. This is JMO.

Our DT rotation is BEAST for next year. Brown, without the benefit of early enrollment, would roll into game shape around late October, early November. Hardman can help with his speed and elusiveness in September and October when we need SPEED. Timing is the issue here.

Name one DT that impacted the game as a freshman. Strength and endurance for a high school freshman in the trenches to be elite is non-existent. Remember you are watching highlight films against some teams that have 6'0 200 pound guards or centers. You can judge speed and elusiveness a lot better...somebody always has decent speed on the other team these days...regardless of whether or not they are D1 material. Always got a little skinny dude that runs people down in highlights. Different ways to measure talent

Tuttle, I think he still has the second best stats of any of our DTs and thats with him missing the last 6 games. Bama gets a new one every year it seems. last year Vanderdoes was pretty good at UCLA, and he didn't know where he was going to be playing during the summer. Daylon Mack and that kid from Clemson. Heck Mackenzie had double teams on him for a good chunk of the year. DTs aren't often high impact guys that rack up a lot of stats, you have to look at the defense around them. if you look you can find them on any Fresh All-Whatever award list.

I have to disagree. Hardman is going to be an awesome player (in orange) but there is no way he is as ready as Brown will be at DT. Or warrior for that matter. Hardman is 5'10" and 168 per 247. Put him in the slot and see how tough it is for him to slip press coverage. He will but not every down. And that is IF he gets the ball. (Hurd get ball. Kamara get ball. P Willy get ball. Dobbs keep ball. North remember ball.)

The iron is ALWAYS going to be hotter on the defensive side of the ball. You put 300 lbs and a 30" vertical on the d line and it doesn't matter if the kid is an 8 year old Polynesian girl (they exist). You just point that sassy minx down field and free up some linebackers. And safeties. And the bus driver in the parking lot. A defensive player ls less beholden to the other 10 players on the field.

BANG! This D is going to be nasty. And I din't even get to Warrior.

None of this matters. Like Clooney at a PTA meeting, we gonna pull them all, son.

I guess I have to spell it out....WE HAVE GREAT DT'S...ZERO SLOT RECEIVERS THAT CAN CHANGE THE GAME. Vanderdoes was a sophomore, I almost mentioned Daylon Mack and Mackenzie was NOT in shape till November. And he needs to be in better shape. Shy was rockin when he got hurt. admitted. Perry may help this year, and was wowing everyone til he hurt his knee.

Tuttle was running thangs from the moment they squeezed him into that #2 Nike shirt. If that pr!ck from UGA hadn't gone all Cobra Kai after getting schooled and taken him out, Tuttle would have been our second freshman all-american.

Hardman is a dime a dozen? OK....Do you read what you type?
Don't have to read it.Mobile athletic DTs are the hardest position to recruit in cfb.Lots of 5.10 5.11 175lbs kids that run sub 4.6 40s.Not knocking on Mecole at all.But the question was which one would you take.I think taking Brown would be the majority opinion on most college recruiters boards. But what do I know.Just a hick from the sticks.:)

Well....Daylon Mack at aTm is really the only one that I can think of....rare for sure...but definitely not "non-existent"....

You're correct....they are few and far between....but getting very good DTs is much more difficult than getting good slot guys....

Clemson's slot guy last night was a walk-on--and he made Bama's DBs look bad all night....
